The seven students chosen for All-State Band audition at the University of South Caro- lina. Along with All-State Band, thirteen students are se- lected to Western Region. Each student who wishes to audition for All-State is re- quired to play the scales, a re- quired solo along with a selected solo, be able to sight- read, and define four musical terms. The orchestra students in- terested in competing for the All-State group prepare a se- lected piece of music and then record it on tape. The tapes are then judged with entries from all over the state. One can easily understand why some Dorman students should not be common when they are preferred. 28 ALL-STATE
