Looklng Back Entermg Patton School a month late because of the pa1alys1s ep1dem1c we were pleasantly surpr1sed to f1nd that palt of our first year 1n school would be devoted to the war effolt The students had been asked to bu1ld model planes for the Naxy Depaltment and responded w1th a w1ll S1nce we were only freshmen we wele not Greatly elated at wm n1ng 1n both football and basketball from the Ehzabethtovxn H1 h School Nevertheless we d1d recexve a certaln amount of grat1Hcat10n from these feats In ou1 Jumor year we came back to find that the school vt as gomg to extend our xacatlon by letting us p1ck apples Because of the man power shortage th1s was a valuable serv1ce More fully comprehendlng the nnportance of 0111 11 1endly r1xalry w1th Ellzabethtown Hlgh School we got a great deal of enjox ment when we emelged V1CtO1 IOUS 1n both majol sports for the second suc CQSSIVQ yeal The semors graduated ID Aprll of 1943 and we became unofl1c1al senlors However th1s temporary loftmess one way to reallty xx hen IH the fall of the same year we agam pxcked apples fo1 the lVIdSOH1C Homes R1d1ng the crest of a successful football season Patton xx ent 1nto the trad1t1on Etown game w1th hlgh hopes These hopes were soon shattered as Ehzabethtown won hand1ly 13 to 0 The annual Rotaly Club basketball tournament was not held because of cond1t1ons grow mg out of the war On February twenty thlrd the last of our class went 1HtO the armed forces As the saylng goes They are gone but not forgotten We shall not forget our three short years at Patton years that bu1lt the foundat1ons for our future advancements Page twenty two 1 c 1 . .
