P ,U Kal! 2' - Spa!! gh! Zfafffall October came in with a flurry of act'vitv getting ot: 'o a good start annual sales began on thc trst and extended through the rronth. By the end of October, 720 oeoole rad purchased a yearbook. Joe Hutchins was eected Pep S:.ad Beau and was presented w'th a plaoue during tne Pep ral y before the Alamo Heights game. This honor was bestowed upon hir' due to n's outstanding leaders'-'o, sportsr'ansh'p, ctzenship, and school spir't sirrplv because all the girls telt that he was a good Joe. Anchor Cub ntiates really rad 't bad th's year. Var'ous tasks were performed out of school et sorrewhat strategic times. Several girls had to shave different senior boys' faces: several girls had to appear at a downtown theater wearing leans, no make-up, and at the Jet drive-inn on a busy Saturday night: and still r ore had to do other teats requiring equal endurance. They were rather weird, but were enioyed by al'-especially the senior club members. Sen'ors posed for their long-awaited cap and gown pictures. Such cherished reminders are a rrrust for each esteemed senior to remember his last year in high school. Several S ngaree foctba.l garnes were played out of 'own during October. Each trre buses were chartered so that students could attend. These trips were al- ways tcli ct fun-pillows. singing! coats, water lugs, and laughter went together to make theie t res most memorable. Of course, with the football games came also the marching Victoriadores. Each game they presented a smart halt-time show. lt should go without saying that all this took pract'ce. The drill team put in many long hours behind each of those ten to fifteen minute periods spent out on the field. Then there was one of the biggest football qarnes of the season, the Jefferson game. Spirit was t-'gh early in the week and by game time everyone was so steamed up noth'ng could stop a Stingaree. The mighty Stings showed their strength in a f'ne manner by mastering the tierce Mustangs for the first time. Pep rallies really livened up VHS students. Besides the official rallies held in the qyrrt, pep and school spirit also prevailed over the school at unofficial gather- ings. Usually a srnall group would start the ye'ls, and within minutes everyone around was io'n?ng it. On the morning ot the Alamo Heights game everyone made a large c'rcle on the practice field and caged a real live mule. This provided 'lun and excitemert and really pepped up all VHS. Giving an old fashioned box supper was an October attraction for Anchor Club girls and the-'f dates, Members prepared food and decorated boxes that were auctioned off to the highest bidder. Everyone had a superb time eating and square dancing. Favorites were elected during the second month of the school year, Also many clubs chose sweethearts or beaus. Before each announcement there were SOVUB mighty suspenseful times throughout the halls of Victoria High. Victoria High School Mixed Choir hosted a choral meet here during the month of October. Al. surrounding sehools attended. At this rpeet A'l-State Choir Mem- bers were chosen. VHS was Quite honored to have several of its students in tnis group. Q Four de'egates from V?ctor'a High were privileged to attend the Annual Conventpn of the Sostr-ern Association of Student Councils held at W. B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi. Those 'our VHites had a great tlme and now have another memorable weekend to add to their lists, Debaters from Wharton, Yoakum, and Victoria met here at VHS to show oft' the'r debating talents. Local attorneys served as iudges and deemed Wharton the most capable. Pat Liford and Polley McGuire represented VHS. I U , Finally October 3lst came along and ended the second month ofthe school year. Halloween gave iokers and pranlrsters a chance to play tr cks and exercise their devilish thoughts.
