He graduated from Oregon State University in March 1997 with a Bachelors of Arts and a Bachelors of Science in History. He reported to Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida and was commissioned in 1998. Following completion of the Surface Warfare Officers School Division Officer Course in Newport, Rl in December 1998, he served as the Communica- tions Officer aboard USS CURTIS WILBUR QDDG 545, home- ported in Yokosuka, Japan until December 2000. He reported for duty in February 2001 as Auxiliaries Officer and then Navigator in USS CUSHING CDD 9855 also homeported in Yokosuka, Ja- pan. During his shore tour from September 2002 to March 2004, he earned a Masters of Arts in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He reported to Surface Warfare Officers Department Head School in April 2004 and reported aboard USS FITZGERALD CDDG 625 after her homeport shift to Yokosuka, Japan as Engi- neer Officer from December 2004 to May 2006. Lieutenant Commander Shuis personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Ma- rine Corps Achievement Medal along with various campaign medals and unit awards. COIVIIVIANDING OFFICER Lieutenant Commander Shultz is a native of El Cajon, CA and was commissioned in July 1994 after completing the NROTC program at the University of California, Los Angeles. Following commissioning, he completed the Surface Warfare Officers School Division Officer Course in Newport, RI. He WHS then assigned to the USS MONSOON CPC 45 as the Weapons, Deck and Supply Officer. His second Division Officer tour was aboard the USS SIDES CFFG 145, where he was assigned as the Main Propulsion Assistant and Auxiliaries Officer. He then at- tended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, WhCrC he eamed a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. J ,SN XMB! ABOVE LCDR blind in Haiphong, BELOW RIGHT Assuming command in January. Lieutenant Commander Shultz then completed the Surface War- fare Officers School Department Head Course. Upon comple- tion, he was assigned as Chief Engineer in USS MOBILE BAY CCG 535 from June 2002 until June 2005. During his tour MO- BILE BAY made two Arabian Gulf deployments. From July 2002 until April 2003, MOBILE BAY deployed with the ABRAHAM LINCOLN Strike Group, participating in Opera- tions SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. MOBILE BAY next deployed with Expedi- tionary Strike Group THREE from June 2004 until December 2004 for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. He assumed command of USS PATRIOT CMCM 75 in January 2007. Lieutenant Commander Shultz is married to the former Teri Emmons of Bremerton, WA and they have two chil- dren, Natalie and Gabrielle. MNCS CSWJ Dothan, AL Senior Chief Petty Officer Butler has served as Patriot 's Senior Enlisted Advisor since May 2006, as Well as be- ing the Operations and Combat Systems Leading Chief Petty Officer. This September, he began turning respon- sibility for Patriofs enlisted men over to Senior Chief Brent Tidwell in anticipation of retiring in spring 2008. Edgar Leo Butler was bom in Fort Polk, Louisiana, and raised in Dothan, Alabama. He entered the Navy in May 1986. His first duty station assignment was as a Surface Sonar Technician aboard USS Robinson CDDG 12j out of San Diego. He converted to his present rate of Mineman in March 1997. His most recent assignment was at Mobile Mine Assembly Unit Eight in Guam, Where he served as Op- erations Officer and Quality Assurance Department Head. His personal awards include the Navy Achieve- ment Medal ftwo Gold Starsj and the Navy Commenda- tion Medal fthree Gold Starsj. Senior Chief Butler is married to the former Lisa Frank- lin, also of Dothan.
