QKXSKD Scigforgo We, the class of 'h9', after many hard, long struggles, managed to become Freshmen in the year of 'l9u5', with thirty- one members. ' They were: Robert Adams, Erma Bailey, Shirley Bittle, Roy Brameier, James Chase, Jo Ann Chase, Anna Davis, Char- lotte Earls, Mardelle Eichler, Thelma Emery, George Gurley, Gladys Harlow, Philip Haworth, Luther Hon, Jr., Gracie Jack- son, Elmer Johnson, Christene Keith, Vera Kinman, Walter La Velle Howard Lyon, Nelson Markland, Elmer McCord, Russell McSwain, Ralph Parker, Betty Ravencraft, Myroleen Reese, Vera Schroeder, Leland Scudder, Leo Smith, Ruth Smith, and Betty Snyder. Those who fell by the wayside during this year, were: Erma Bailey, James Chase, Charlotte Earls, Gladys Harlow, El- mer McCord, Leland Scudder, and Leo Smith. During our Sophomore year, Thelma Emery, Ruth Smith, Betty Snyder, and Larry Turner, left us. As we entered our Junior year, Christene Keith and Mar- delle Eichler, departed from us. Our Junior and Senior Prom, sponsored by Hadley Haworth, was enjoyed by all. The scene was a brightly colored jungle. The dinner was very appetizing and music pleasing. The class members who will graduate are: Robert Adams, Roy Brameier, Jo Ann Chase, Russell McSwa1n, Halstead Arm- strong, Howard Lyon, George Curley, Myroleen Reese, ,Betty Ravencraft, Nelson Markland, Elmer Johnson, Vera McAlister, Vera Schroeder, Walter Lavelle, and Luther Hon, Jr. Our Class Officers for l9L8-l9A9, are: President ----------- Luther Hon, Jr. Vice Pres. ---------- Elmer Johnson Secretary ----------- Vera McAlister Treasurer ----------- Jo Ann Chase Student Council ----- Nelson Markland Our Class Sponsor is Superintendent Guy S. Harris. Our Class Flower is Lily of the Valley. Our Class Colors are Black and Gold. Our Class Motto is LET US BE JUDGED BY OUR DEEDS. Vera McAlister Qfagg qovoiogecgo After a busy afternoon taking dictation from my tall, dark, and handsome banker boss, and having dinner with him at the Waldorf, I wanted to relax and forget my troubles, so I turned on my television set and sank back in my easy chair My thoughts suddenly reverted from New York to Patriot as there flashed on the screen visions of my old classmates at P.H.S. Jo Ann Chase entered the bonds of matrimony in l95L, to Lucian Smith, a jack-of-all trades. They are living under the palm trees of California, like Nature Boy with two lit- tle Smiths, eating bananas. Elmer Johnson is now Brigadier General in Uncle Sam's Army. He is known from coast to coast and border to border as a favorite, with the ladies that is. In l9h9 Elmer took orders, now I see plainly, Elmer giving orders. I see Robert Adams at home in Florence, sketching over a newspaper, looking for work, NO, looking for a young lady who has inherited gobs of money. As the scene changes I see he had good results if we can judge by that georgeous blond in the mink coat. Vera Kinman McAlister who started on her journey of married life, with Wwhiteyn when a Senior in High School, is now living on Paradise Ridge, working busy like a little bee making Whoneyn. She is still Sunday School Superinten- dent, President of P.T.A., Most Excellent Chief of The Pyth- ian Sisters, and Society Editor of the Revielle. I see a wedding in store for Howard Lyon in 1950! The couple will make their home on the Beautiful Ohio in a lit- tle steamer. He spends time lobbying for Higher Compensa- tion in Washington. Still, Miss Myroleen Reese, I believe, is raising and training race horses in the Old West. She rides her Pal- omino in all the rodeos and has received Grand Awards in her daring horsemanship. Now living on an experimental dairy farm in Wisconsin is Nelson Wayne Markland. Something new has been added. Yes, Sam is no longer his own boss. CLASS PROPHECY KCONTINUEDQ I see Junior Hon, a minister in l95L, of the Florence Methodist Church. He is very active in the leadership of young people, especially young ladies. Is it that young lady assistant Shirley Bromwell? Betty Ravencraft, her husband, Earl Horn, and five children, are just one big happy family. She still reads murder thrillers for recreation but won't even allow the children a comic book. I see Walter LaVelle as a male hair stylist who does modeling clothes for men of distinction. Halstead Armstrong after being an understudy for Clark Gable in Hollywood for two years is now living with Martha on Pleasant Ridge and are raising little Armstrongs. Russell Mcswain, now with a helper, is a prosperous farmer of Egypt Bottom, but still takes daring trips on his motor bike. Roy Brameier still spinning big yarns, and I do mean big, is now a famous comedian over station XYZ, on the Judy Conovoa program. A good match, I think. And just to think he got his start spinning alibis at P.H.S. I see George Gurley as a Highway Patrolman, State of Indiana. He always liked speeding, and this gives him an opportunity to indulge in it when chasing some poor offender Vera Schroeder P.H.S. 1959 mmm 6 scALATorzs wa L V 'ins 'WQT W Y L 4 n SQKEQ .af ,TL mswmeo AT zvefav 1, . 51 sms von 'me use or Tmeo sruoems... Elmer Johnson, at first base, and Nelson Markland at second base were the only two regulars left over from the l9h7 squad. The remaining positions had to be filled with players who had little, if any experience. Halstead Arm- strong, a returned veteran, was behind the plate to do the catching with Hilbert Keith firing the balls across to him. Lawrence Kelly and Billy King were holding down shortstop and third base positions during the season. Markland, the veteran second baseman, was able to play in only three games due to the illness of his father and for the rest of the season, Jimmy Harris, a freshman, guarded this sack. Eddie Smith, another freshman, played center field position. Venneth Patterson, sophomore, covered right field while Walter LaVelle, Charles Scott and Russell Mc- Swain alternated left field position. Even with this reorganization of the squad, the season proved to be exciting and challenging. The squad lost four games out of six which proved that they were in there fight- ing all the time. The experience gained by the freshmen-and sophomores should offset the loss of Veteran players next year. The scores of the games lost and won were: WON Patriot lbores Pill A Patriot Dillsboro O LOST Rising Sun Patriot 3 Guilford Patriot 2 Bright Patriot 5 Rising Sun Patriot 5 1302 BASYETPALL The 1948-A9 basketball season opened with Coach Ford having only three regulars left from the squad last year. These were Lawrence Kelly, Nelson Narkland and Elmer John- Sono Coach Ford after seeing his men out for basketball switched the entire squad around from the position they held last year leaving only Varkland playing his regular position which is center. Johnson, a guard last year, was changed to forward this year, where he has been successfully playing all year. Kelly, forward position last year, has been playing guard this season. Billy King from the B squad last year is on the first string this year as guard. Hilbert Faith, playing forward this year has been toss- ing them in the hoop all season. The boys who have filled other positions very capably are Russell VcSwain, Walter LaVelle, Charles Scott, Halstead Armstrong, Clyde Poling, Estal Lozier and Kenneth Patterson. The Trojans have won 12 games and lost 9. These games include both the Invitational Tourney and the Sectional. A few games were lost by a margin of one or two points. A little more reserve strength and we should have given a few more teams a rugged time in the conference. In the Invitational Tourney at Rising Sun, the Trojans went into the finals when they defeated Cross Plains by a score of L9 to 38. The Trojans went down in bitter defeat in the finals against Rising Sun by a score of L7 to 38. Playing the Vevay warriors in the Sectional at Aurora, the Trojans scored a victory over the Warriors in the first game Friday evening by the score of thirty-five to thirty- three. This game was hard fought all the way through by both teans but the Trojans came out on top. 1302 BASFFITTEILLL I CONTINUED! On Saturday the Trojans met the Lawrenceburg Tigers in the second game that afternoon. The boys played a headshup game all the way against the Tigers but couldn't match their strength. The score of the game was Lawrenceburg sixty-one, Patriot thirty. Lawrenceburg went to the finals to defeat Guilford by a fairly large margin. The scores on the games won and lost including both of the Tourneys: WDN Patriot 37 Cross Plains Patriot 32 Moores Will Patriot 36 Bright Patriot 3A Cross Plains Patriot 47 Central Patriot 35 Dillsboro Patriot LO VMoores Hill Patriot 28 Nevay Patriot 29 Bright Patriot 3A Dillsboro LOST Rising Sun Patriot Guilford Patriot Vevay Patriot Warsaw Patriot Guilford Patriot Rising Sun Patriot Versailles Patriot BLIND TOURNEY Patriot L9 Cross Plains Patriot 38 Rising Sun SECTIONAL Patriot 35 Vevay Patriot 30 Lawrenceburg In the Laughery Valley Conference, Guilford took first place by defeating Rising Sun. Rising Sun was in second place while Patriot took the undisputed third place. Fourth place was given to Versailles. Patriot won nine of her fifteen conference games which undoubtly as was said gave her third place in the conference.
