Class Hlstor WW fBy MABEL EVERLYJ On a brxght September mornmg 111 the year of 1929 seventeen happ, Freshles presented themselses at Patrlcksburg Hxgh School 1n search of knowledge Thev met and selected the followmv OITICQFS V1rg1n1a Smdllnger Presxdent MPIVIH Oberholtzer VICE President Gene Maegerlem Secretarv Doxa Powell Treasurer At thls meetlng purple and whlte were c osen as t1e class colors The motto I Can I Must I W1ll was selected A heated algument arose over the ChO1C9 of a f ower that would represent the class The boys wanted the dandellon but the glrls demanded somethmg more refmed Slnce no lmmedlate need was seen for the flower the cholce was postponed untll a later date The flrst great event for the Rhlnes was the m1t1at1on ThlS was excltlng for the other classes but a llttle hard on the class 1n1t1ated Dm mg thls year attendance partles were glven every two months Two of these partles were gxven 1n honor of the Freshmen The Fres imen bought play books entltled Beads on a Strlnv but taxled to UIVQ the play These books were bought by the Senlors of 1 but up to the present wr1t1ng the books have not been pald for The basketball tournament was lost bv the Freshles to the Senxors The Freshman volley ball team however was very good Although memorv falls us no doubt the yolley ball tournament was won by them All the Fresmes were sorxv to lose Robert lVI1ller who qult school at the end of the Freshman Vear An operetta The Toreadors was gnen durlng thls year and a large number of the Freshmen took part On class nlght the Freshmen presented two numbers The flrst was a burlesoue of Pvramus and Thlsbe and the second was an lm1tatl011 of a CIHSQIC dance gn en b Rob M1ller and Melxm Oberholtzer 'N , 4 . l. 9 ac - n Y - - ' .
