This year two new classes were started in Speech and Drama. Both of the courses in- creased the students ' confi- dence and enabled them to ex- press their ideas more clearly. The teachers are young, many are outspoken, and all are willing to experiment with varied and modern teaching methods. This year two new music teachers came to Patrick Henry. Mrs. Peaks, the chorus instructor and Mr. Littlejohn, the band director. They have combined their talents and hard work in producing a fine and growing Music Depart- ment. MR. MR. LEWIS BRUBAKER B.S. VPI M.S. University of Md. MR. CARLTON HALL M.A. VPI Vo. Ag. and Mechanical Drawing MR. BOWMAN Virginia Tech. Whenever a desk needed repairing or a podium built, the Vo. Ag. Depart- ment was the place to go. Besides helping out around school, the guys taking a subject under this department made projects of their own. A tractor driving contest was held in the spring. Mechanical drawing is a 2 year course of drawing plans and blue prints of houses, office buildings and bridges. This class serves as an excel- lent preparation course for those who plan to go into architecture. 19
