Tenney R. WATSON DURHAM — A.B., William and Mary. Mr. R. Watson Durham, As- sistant Principal, begins his day meeting with Mr. Turner and students of various interests. His understanding nature and desire to keep our school united have served as a link between students and himself. Mr. Durham and Mr. Turner have worked together, each complementing the other, striving for the best for all. These attitudes have left a promising hope, that our stu- dents will leave here with a deep feeling of unity and working together. The Guidance Department is kept busy year round helping students. The new counselor, Mr. Stone, has helped the sophomores feel more at home at their new school. When jun- iors need help Mrs. Campbell is always there. Mrs. West with diligence and stern manner has helped many of the seniors reach their goal. McEwen MR. AUBREY STONE MRS. office Staff Works Together It is never unusual to see Mr. Turner at school taking care of un- finished business early in the morn- ing or late at night. He has been faced with many problems during his administration. He has filled this position to the best of his ability and has experienced both success and failure. In these times of revolution and change, many feel that the office of principal should be filled by a more liberal man. Others are satisfied with his work and see no reason for change. This school year, more than any other, has proven that both the man and his position are quite con- troversial. MRS. JOYCE HARRIS MRS. EVELYN BUMPASS Tenney ALFRED W. TURNER, JR. - B.S., VIP, M.Ed., University of Virginia. Tenney Mrs. Bumpas had the job of tak- ing care of the financial business of all the clubs and the school. Help- ing Mrs. Bumpass is Mrs. Harris who spends most of her time at the type- writer and signing notes for strayed students. When you are faced with a problem no teacher can help solve, your first impulse is to go ask the secretaries. They are always will- ing to stop their work to help a stu- dent. Even after school they are in the office tired and still busy at work. 12

Varying Departments Along with the task of teach- ing Health and Physical Educa- tion, Mr. Ritchie and Miss Dowdy also take on other duties. Besides being coaches, they teach drivers education in the classroom and behind the wheel. The Science Department is one that offers a varied degree of study for its students. One may choose only to take the basic subjects and not con- tinue his studies any further. But a student who wishes to advance has the advantage of the knowledge and the interest shown by the teachers of this department. MR.
