summER FALL WINTER SPRING 5

Page 8 text:

The new Henry attendance area covers a large por-tlon of North Minneapolis. Henry Faces the Challenge of Change Talk of a “Five Year Plan” was often in the news headlines in the Spring of 1982 as the Minneapolis School Board voted to close 18 public schools, including three high schools, at the end of the school year. The closing of Central. Marshall-U and West high schools meant substantial boundary changes and other adjustments for the remaining seven senior highs. Henry's boundaries were basically increased with the addition of territory from the old North and West high school areas south to 35th Avenue No. and west of Penn Avenue No. all the way south to the Burlington Northern railroad tracks, and east of Penn between Olson Highway and the B.N.R.R. to Interstate 94, taking in a large segment of the near Northside. Henry's enrollment jumped from 800 last year to nearly 1300 for the 1982-83 school year. Some old school acquaintances of long standing were dissolved as students accepted the Board's decision and moved on to form new friendships in new school settings for some, and familiar places for others. First trimester registration gave the “new’’ Henry student body its first look at a greatly changed teaching and administrative staff. Forty-nine new teachers from a total of 72 greeted students on the first day. Mr. Magnuson and Mr. Hickman were joined by new assistant principals, Dr. Duane Eklin and Mr. Fred Meyer. Few school organizations, teams and traditions have not felt the “challenge of the change this year, and yet the Henry High School student body and staff have continued to grow and meet these new challenges, whatever they may be. Fun in the Sun Summer is a time of fun and enjoyment for everybody. Summer is a time for boating, going to the cabin, and watching sunrises and sunsets. It's also a time to get together with friends and have a good time. Summer is a time to spend outdoors in nature. But soon we are back in school again, and when the snow starts to fall, it’s nice to remember the sunny days of summer. At Right: Tim Kraemer finds a way to relax and have fun on the water.
