Patriots Struggle For Fourth . . . Mike Douglas carries the ball up field for extra yardage. 8 Marshall U's line attack stops Henry s offensive intentions. This year's team had a very rough and tough season defeating four out of nine opponents — Marshall U. at the homecoming game; Simely, a team which placed first in its conference; South, with a 40-o score; and Vocational. After losing the Northside Championship, Kevin Sutcliff explained, We know we aren't going to win any championships now; we just have to beat the leaders, Edison and Washburn, and finish up with respect. Competitive experience gained this year will prove to be very valuable for players returning next year. TEAM — Front: J. Snyder, D. Schmidt, D. Bartelt, J. Kmvc, B, Wryk. P. Larson, J. Dahlberg, J. Although at the beginning of the season they were a green team , they gained some valuable experience throughout the season that was greatly needed in regions. As senior forward John Soderquist commented, Wecan beat anyone if we really want to. The captains of this year's team were Bill Hunter, Ellis Sibley, and John Soderquist. Their regular season record had them 11 -6. Their games were an hour and a half before every varsity game, and although they had little support, they gained valuable experience for varsity competition. Mr. Washington, the coach, commented, You might have been surprised, but I wasn't. They all played well.” Opponents use a press on Henry's Jerry Manion. as Kurt Cassidy awaits to assist. For those who enjoy variety in outdoor winter sports, skiing provides three different events. Henry's skiing team had participants in all three areas for only the second year. The team was supported by three jumpers. Norm Hansen and Jeff Kline, who attend Olson Jr. High, and Jim Krave, a senior. Not Just Any Way, Shape, Or Form . . . might be the motto of this year’s gymnastics team in their efforts towards perfection. The team was successful in placing fourth in City. Three of Henry 's gymnasts also placed in districts, which enabled them to go on to state competition. They were Brad Hall and John Hassler, who placed first and third consecutively on the parallel bars; and John Burns, who placed third on the horse. Whjl Jo vou think of, Brad Hall, when you re in competition? Effort Concentration Skill Determination are what Bill Crooker needs to perform on the horse. They Just Wanted To Go To State . . . Henry’s hockey team was impressively rated in both city and state this year. They had a winning streak of eleven games when they met Southwest, a long-time rival. But a few bad breaks proved fatal for the Pats as Southwest went ahead 3-2 with six seconds left to play. Pep Club summarized the feelings of the fans by their sign Southwest ain't the best . With an 8-2-0 record, Henry tied for second, and a draw from the hat gave us fourth. Senior center John Sheridan led the city in scoring with 45 points, and as many a fan has said. Henry should go to state for John Sheridan . Senior goalie, Jeff Policy, gets a deserved break as Henry swamps Vocational 15-3. To see Henry's sophomore hockey team in action is to see a dream come true. Although the team was very young this year it rose to the rank of second place in city standings. Their record consisted of six wins and two losses. Much of the credit for the team s accomplishments this year goes to three members. Dan Hunter, Bob Olson, and goalie Richard Schoff. To many people, however, the team doesn't need an impressive won-loss record to be admired. Gerry Opitz feels It takes the physically fit and alotof mental stability to be a wrestler. The two captains this year were T. Griffin and M. Shockency. Admitting they haven't had the best season T. Griffin still has faith in the team and the sport. As he puts it, Grappling is the noblest form of hand to hand combat. Although track season starts in March, many track men prepare early in the season for city and state competition. There are many different events that take place in each meet, among them shot and discuss. According to Arnie Wodtke, Henry should have a promising vear in shot and discuss, and I'm looking forward to the season. According to Bill Delmonico, Golf is more of a team sport because everyone has to do good to win. Mikr lnk.il,i get on the ball. 33 Baseball Looks Hopeful. . . According to senior Jeff Policy. Baseball is a team sport because you can t win with one guy.' Henry should have a very competitive team this year and an exciting season with many returning players. Senior Randy Kabrick offered his opinions on baseball. I like batting better than fielding because it is less easy to make mistakes. 34 i t TEAM Iron!: B Kabrick, S Barnard, C. Langley. Even though the cheerleaders do work hard, nobody is perfect. According to senior Bill McCrum, I think they have a lot of spirit and imagination. Sometimes it's hard for twelve girls to carry all the school spirit, when the team is losing and the fans aren't cheering. Regardless of what anyone says they seem to be busy years. The junior high has its own environment and gazes at senior high activities with excitement. Freshmen at Henry are included in some senior high activities. but are still considered part of the junior high. Many times they are caught deciding to which school they really belong. Sophomores are challenged with new friends from feeding junior high schools and begin to grow together as the class of '74. The juniors can't wait to become seniors, and spend the year knee deep in activities. But underclassmen years seem to go by so fast. Lasting friendships are formed, and as each class matures to seniorhood there is a satisfying nod from the administration. 016 Mr. Wuta, M. Ludvigsen. D. Mattson, C. Johnson. 017 Front: T. Sellers.
