It’s all the same. Tomorrow is dark and uncertain. Our years at Henry Helped shape our future ... Our teachers and administration Our fellow students. Because of our experience here Tomorrow looks brighter. The seasons may change With the time — | But we change too. 19 PEOPLE Senior Life Is “Memories, Pressed between the pages of my mind. Memories, Sweetened through the ages just like wine. Quiet thoughts come floating down And settle softly to the ground. Like gold of autumn leaves around my feet. 1 touch them and they burst apart With sweet memories, sweet memories Of holding hands and red bouquets. And twilights trimmed in purple ha c, And laughing eyes and simple ways. And quiet nights and gentle days Senior girts take advantage of the lunch hour to catch up on the latest gossip. Participation in Candidates Day gave seniors a taste of politics and a look into the future with the change in the voting age. To be eligible a student must rank in the upper half of the class. The senior class, along with the teachers, vote for a deserving boy and girl. The votes arc then tallied and awards given out accordingly. The Parent-Teacher Association award of one hundred dollars and a certificate of recognition is given to a boy and girl who have contributed in school and community activities. For service and leadership abilities, the First National Bank awards a medal of honor and fifty dollars to a boy and girl. Based on outstanding citizenship and school contributions, the Star and Tribune awards twenty-five dollars to a deserving senior. The Rose Reese award for interest in foreign affairs is given by the World Affairs Council of Minneapolis. The North Side American Legion Post honors a boy and girl based on the qualities of leadership, courage, honor and scholarship. The Daughters of the American Revolution award is given to a student for interest and achievement in American History. By maintaining a 3.75 grade point average throughout senior high school, eight students ranked in the top 2% of their class. In recognition of their scholastic achievements, they were awared red and white stoics and honor diplomas at graduation. Fifty-five additional students were presented honor diplomas for maintaining at least a 3.2 average. 54 Top 2 Row I; Rhonda Stelton. Mary NyquiM. Detune Wclhenlle. Juniors Prepare For Senior Year The junior year is always one filled with both fun times and hard work as students realize the importance of their grades. Friendships arc also developed as the students become more involved in the wide range of sports and social activities offered at Patrick Henry. The future looks good for the juniors with their excellent sportsmen, able leaders, and academic abilities. Next year's seniors should prove to be a challenging group. Junior Terry Kaine impatiently await his turn to write out a tardy pass. 56 MR. BELKHOLM 033 Ron I; C. Bruhjcll M. Burnt. C. Bye. S Botncr Row i P Cong-dun, P Chapman, D. Ruth. J Bourgeon Row 3: G. Energetic Frosh Look To The Future Henry's spirited ninth graders made that all important step towards the rewarding years of senior high. Students experienced work and fun in classes preparing them for higher education. They participated in sports and in a broader range of social activities. By the end of their freshman year students looked forward to the challenges and good times of the years ahead. 72 In one of their few quiet moments, ninth grade girls dream of their food now being prepared. The team was also helped along by junior catcher Craig Fen-stra, and fielders Kevin Cassidy, Jeff Lun-deen, Kurt Gustafson, and Dan Bergstrom. Swimming And Tennis Teams Rate High G.A.A. has long been an activity at Henry, but each year the participants get more and more out of the organization. The girl’s swimming team dove into its third year of action led by Captain Robin Boldt and coached by Miss Brendscl. The team was young, but the effort of the members was rewarding as the team sent a girl in each event to the City preliminaries. Girl's tennis, captained by Mona Klimmek. proved to be successful this year as the team tied for third place in the City with a record of five wins and two losses — truly a credit to the team and their coach. This year was the first for Henry’s gymnastic team to compete with other schools. Mrs. Gustafson spent time coaching the girls to help them prepare for the meets. Returning members of the badminton team were one of the reasons for the team’s success. With the combined effort ol old and new members, the team worked hard to be successful. Not to be outdone, girl’s volleyball combined enthusiasm with teamwork, a key in playing volleyball. Coach Gustafson and the girls all worked hard to make the team a good one. The purpose of this revision was to make it easier for the girls to cover their tight schedule of activities. This year’s squad consisted of six seniors and five juniors. Under the leadership of Captain Beth Carlson, the pep rousers worked energetically throughout the summer and the school year to spread cheer and boost school spirit. The year was crowded with pepfests and games, games, games. New Student Government Stimulates Students A student government has emerged this year to replace the old Student Council. There are three branches in the Student Government: the Senate. House of Representatives. and the Executive Committee. A representative was chosen from each social studies class and the Senators were elected by popular vote. Elections for officers took place last spring and since that time the government has been progressing steadily. Mrs. Savage was the advisor for this group and her effort has added much to the first, trying year. Instead of meeting during class time, they met at 7:30 every morning. The advisor of the E.A.C. was Mr. Alexander Thomas. The Science Club also had a very active year. Work Program: A Plan For The Future The Work Program almost doubled in force this past year. A once small, selective group expanded to include about 167 students. Those students reported to school at the bright, early hour of 7:30. Each student took one of the three work program classes. They were Office Education. Distributive Education, and Trades and Industry. The teachers. Mrs. Knapp. Mr. Smith. Mr. Schulte. Mr. Doll, and Mr. Anderson, were in charge of the Work Experience part of the Work Program. Going to school early enabled the students to get done with classes at 10:30. After that, each student had a hard day at the office or store or garage to look forward to. The result of the Work Program was more students with work experience behind them, and possibly a step into the future. 168 While working at Camden Northwestern Bank.
