. Building Brutes Coach builds all Were they baby brutes? No! lt was just the Junior Varsity Football team trying to benefit the varsity teams of the future. Head coach, Walt Baranski, had a primary goal. He taught his athletes to execute basic funda- mentals while maintaining good sportsman- ship. Some of our toughest opponents, Helix, Sweetwater and Hilltop, helped to prepare the Patriots for their league opponents. One of Coach Baranski's main purposes was to help his players to become better ath- letes. HA good athlete is a young man who ll G feels fear easily, but reacts with skill. possesses outstanding skills and shows signs of constantly striving to reach his potentialf, Baranski explained, Hin addition, a good ath- lete is intelligent, motivated and eager to learn. He takes criticism well, and constantly tries to improve himself by working on his weaknesses. As Baranski described a good athlete, he commented on how one would 'lfeel fear easily, but react with skill and poise. Most importantly, he takes defeat graciously and is humble in victory. l i f-.32 . W ' 68 Athletics I round athletes Our J.V. Football team held many of these qualities.
