I shudder at all the times I was scrib- bled on, erased, and crumpled in frustration. The student who tortured me, wrote Chalk lenges, Proofs, Tuesday Practices, and homework, not to mention tests. The college credit math class teacher, Mrs. Kotnik, lectured well and the problems and ideas were stimulating. I was the one who had to bear being laden with derivatives and inte- grals. I was also the one who had to put up with the grafitti and profanity scribbled along my borders. I wasn't alone in my struggles. I had friends in other math classes like Geometry, Algebra and Trigonometry that had to suffer through triangle proofs and sine functions. And from what I hear, there were even more math classes such as, Pre-Calculus, Consumer Math, Career Math, Computer Science and Computer Aptitude. My career ended in June, and though I may be bored with retirement, I don't miss the blood, sweat and tears I absorbed. - Mathematics 55

I was an IBM electric typewriter, one of about a hundred in the school. Daily I was subjected to thousands of pounding fin- gers, punching those ever-familiar patterns of 'lj-ij , 'Lk-k-k , and of course, a-s-d-f. The worst part of my job, though, was listening to the monotonous drone of that voice on the tape recorder reciting the lesson for the day. My only excitement came during fourth peri- od when I got to learn more of the continuing saga of Lisais undying love for John through the many love notes she cleverly typed on me when the teacher wasn't looking. Other high ll HIT? subjected to thousands of pounding fingers . . . points of my day included time-writings, memorandurns, business letters, and manu- scripts. Sometimes I was used by students in other Business department classes. This was pretty fun because I got to learn about all sorts of subjects like, Accounting, Business Careers, Personal Notetaking, Business Law, Office Training, Business Communication, Data Processing, and Marketing. I felt very lucky to have the job I had be- cause of all the use I get. I had a cousin who lived with a high school student who hadn't taken typing, and he never got used! 56 Academics Stacy Hicks looks at her paper intently in order to avoid checking her fingers.
