Thus began a year of Photogra- phy which taught students how to develop their film, make their own proof sheets, and enlarge their own prints. 'iPortrait taking is my favorite assign- ment,', said one student. It was a popular assignment because it gave students an op- portunity to make their favorite person the subject of their photos. Students also learned techniques in pic- ture-toning, camera-loading, and how to cor- rect faulty pictures of mistakes. The most impressive aspect of the class, however, was its teacher, Mr. Shaffroth. By having the students address him as Ed, he quickly established an individualized relation- ship with each of his students. The atmo- sphere in his room was constantly relaxed, Ed Shaffroth counsels Dennis Roberts and other students on how to achieve and shoot the best possible pictures. is at it easy going and friendly. Due to this excellent working atmosphere, students worked well in groups, and viewed the year as a success. This was only one of many lndustrial Arts classes. Other classes included Drafting, Ar- ll ul' you can call me Ed. chitectural Design, Graphic Arts, Electronics, Woodworking, Auto Mechanics, General Metal, and Photography. I shudder at all the times I was scrib- bled on, erased, and crumpled in frustration. The student who tortured me, wrote Chalk lenges, Proofs, Tuesday Practices, and homework, not to mention tests. The college credit math class teacher, Mrs. Kotnik, lectured well and the problems and ideas were stimulating. I was the one who had to bear being laden with derivatives and inte- grals. I was also the one who had to put up with the grafitti and profanity scribbled along my borders. I wasn't alone in my struggles. I had friends in other math classes like Geometry, Algebra and Trigonometry that had to suffer through triangle proofs and sine functions. And from what I hear, there were even more math classes such as, Pre-Calculus, Consumer Math, Career Math, Computer Science and Computer Aptitude. My career ended in June, and though I may be bored with retirement, I don't miss the blood, sweat and tears I absorbed. - Mathematics 55
