Shop teacher Ralph Dinsdale shows a student how to use a blow torch. lnl I Do' g t ith Stye Teachers have their own ways Well, it was one of those days as I stepped into my first period class. Mr. Gumina sat patiently going over the role. I remember asking him why we were going over the tests again. I-Ie said, When you walk out of here I want you to know why the answers you gave ll hey have to crawl before they can walk. were wrong. Second period came in and I thought back to Mr. Bassett's first lecture . . . My main goal is to teach you to communi- cate in the written languages. Third period rolled in and I found myself in biology 316. I remember asking Mr. Runge why he gave us homework. I-Ie replied I hope that by giving you homework I can in some way show you how to use biology in life. In Fourth period I liked Mr. Dolby because he treated us separately. I-le laughed and joked with us but always got the job done. As I ate lunch I watched Khampheng Phab- mixay who was surrounded by Laotion stu- dents and thought . . . I-Ie sure must be a great teacher for those who want to learn. I walked into Mr. Dinsdale's metal shop and remembered something he once said, Stu- dents are like babies, they have to crawl be- fore they can walk. Last period thundered in and I thought of Mrs. Gage's unique way of teaching. K'She makes learning fun, said a friend, Well it's been ten years and I still remember those great teachers. Mr. Richter came into our class and explained about the ups and downs of getting a job and preparing for the future. Frankly, he scared me to death. There were so many things that I didn't want to think about - the future seemed so frightening, and so close. Luckily, the teachers made me think. Mr. Schor talked about a different col- lege every week, and his essays, as impossi- ble as they seemed, were exactly what I'll be getting in college. My friends were always being reminded by Mr. Gage that the Canter- bury Tales would be of great use to them in college. I suspect that it was only a ploy to get them to read. Mr. Wilson was constantly em- ll't was only a ploy to get them... phasizing the importance of college. I was, for the most part, looking forward to the future with a mixture of fear, nausea, and excite- ment. Due to my teachers encouragement, however, I now look forward to my years after high school as an enormous adventure - I can't wait for it to begin.
