Swim 2V2 miles in rough water? Bike 112 miles? Then run a marathon, all in the same dayl? Maybe not for you and me but this is something that Coach Joseph Kovacevich takes a liking to. His dedication and discipline enabled him to train for the most strenuous of athletic competition, the triathalon - which involves running, swimming, and biking. He has competed in mini triathalons here in San Diego but his goal was to rival the stiff compe- tition of the world in the famous triathalon in Hawaii. Fitness is more than just a hobby, it's an obsession. ealthy ttitud Teachers get it together Coach Kovacevich pedaled to and from ore tha n a h obb y, it 'a a n obs essi on school each dey which added up to e healthy 292 Administration Staff 30 miles. During his summers, he started his training at 6 a.m., while most of us were stilf in bed. He ran for 45 min., biked 50 miles. then swam 3A mile. A few other teachers kept in shape too. For Coach lmlay's enjoyment and exercise he strolled the golf course and putted 18 holes whereas Mr. Zetts had been seen exer cising during lunch hour. Almost all of th faculty had their own methods of keeping ij shape, whether it was running, dancing, oi just trying to control their class.

Badminton is not Coach Fritz Ziegenfuss' only rac- quet. During the winter season, he is also a Varsity Basketball coach. Beginning as an Industrial Arts teacher, James Clark has been here since the school opened. Seeing the thousands of students who have come through, he thinks it's amazing how L '.,. the community sucks them up like a sponge' Patrick Henry from the Teachers Angle Things here took on a different aspect from an English teacher's angle, especially that of Robert Hotchkiss. According to Hotchkiss, students didn't treat the campus as well as they would have treated their own homes, and he believed we had one of the messiest campuses in the city. Still, Hotchkiss felt that the standards at our school were better than any other school distressed Hotchkiss. Most students, he felt, did just enough to get by, but no more. Hotchkiss would extend the school day and increase graduation re- quirements. 90070 of our teachers did an excellent job, but they lacked the facilities and money nec- essary. Hotchkiss also revealed that too many students were put into one classroom at a time. English teacher Hotchkiss hopes for im- provement in our already fine school. The school is great, but can always be better. He has offered constructive criticism which can always help, and gave us some things to think about in the future. 294 Administration Staff l I
