After three years as a student, Kevin Friedman came back to work on the supervision staff. What makes some- one want to return to high school when they are attending college at State? After working in the security office throughout high school, he was asked to return for a job. That ijob' consisted of a lot. lt's hard because a lot of the students are my friends . . . they like to think l'm just saying things, horsing aroundf, But it wasn't always that way. When . . . people respect you, you can respect them backf, There was also an advantage to being friends with students. UI try to get to know people, says Friedman, and if we get along well, there's really no problem . . . The kids know what's wrong and what's right . . . Overall, Friedman's job is not what many think. He is not on campus . . . to ibust' people, but as Mac thead of securityl puts it, here to insure that students are safe. He is obviously concerned with this. 'Tm here working, but because l'm friends with them, I can try to help with other problems. Fried- man was almost like a student, but now he says, K '... l realize the gap more. ll realize the gap' ll We can see that Friedman is a friend who also watches out for the students. Other em- ployees here that had returned after gradu' ation included Barry Ferich and Steve White, Mr. Dobbin's assistant. They seem to be ate tached to Henry because of good exper- iences throughout high school. All recent graduates and young student teachers were helpful because they posed as a tying link between students and real teach' ers, making this year a good one for commu' nication in class. His relationship with the students helps Kevin Friedman in his work. As part of supervision staff. he is constantly assisting them. Back Again 287
