.Hz Name of the Game There were many people who considered Dungeons and Dragons a forgotten and no longer popular source of fun. However, those who did not believe this joined together to continue a tradition founded last year. lt was these people who joined the Gaming club. Dungeons and Dragons was not the limit, however, for the club enjoyed Travellers and Gamma world, other fantasy games. Scot Conway, one of this year's presidents, said that everyone participated in these compli- cated but exciting games to become part of a world dominated by Hswords and sorcery, super-advanced future, or holocaust. Althoughdominated by these fantasy-style games, virtually any game was permitted. Boardgames such as Chess and Backgam- mon and a Japanese card game called Hana- Futa were among the lesser played, but equally enjoyed games. This year featured the traditional tourna- ments of chess, and plans for a future Monop- oly or Scrabble tournament were considered. 274 Associations The Gaming club carousing for their picture Front Row: A. Regardless of it's looks, it did a fine job in the protection of the face, while it also had a flap that pro- tected the neck. Many fencers also used a glove to protect the back hand. ln the actual fencing, which occurs after all the fencing preparation, there were two general categories of movement, defensive and offensive. said Ken Hittleman. When people thought about fencing, they thought about mystery. and maybe even knights in shining armor. But the fencing club here thought of many other things. There moves were precise, planned out, and well executed. To defend, fencers would use the parry, a type of block or guard. Sec- Ch n O I O g i S t S ond Row Mr Platten A Huntington Under a broad title of Technology and the future came three important clubs: the Science Club, Aerospace Club and Comput- er Corp. All three were dedicated to enrich- ing the educations of their members. The Sci- ence Club did so through guest speakers and field trips to various San Diego museums. The Aerospace Club found enrichment at their weekly meetings when they engaged in fascinating conversations on topics such as the aging process in space. They also took trips to places such as the Aerospace Muse- um. The Computer Corps, however, learned on campus as they continued a project which was started at least three years ago by pre- vious members. This unusual endeavor was the creation of a robot. The construction of a robot was a long-term project and the corp had worked on the structure of the robot's body and the programming of his arm move- ments. The value of this project was best expressed by Ken l-Iittleman when he said that, I have learned a great deal from the robot construction and it will mean continued contact with Patrick Henry after graduation because I will want to see the finished prod- uct.
