Mr. Keller said that the groups were limited to 'ianyone who could carry a tune and was ready to work. The groups participated in a number of concerts and festivals including the Winter and Spring Concerts, City, County, and State level Competitions, and both invitational and clinic-type festivals. How was all of this supported? Mr. Keller smiled and said, 'iYou're lookin' at lem! The kids do all the fundraising. Patrick Henry's hungry stomachs and sweet teeth supported the candy and cookie sales, though those were just a few of their many fundraising projects. The school allotted a certain amount of money for the classroom experience - not, however, for their festivals. The ASB's sup- port and the hard-earned money made their trips possible. A good portion of her friends are in Bel Cantos, an added plus. i'With no guys, a bus ride would normally not be terrific, but because we are so close, we always have a great time. Advanced classes and all that music, lSta- cey is a member of both Choir and Bel Can- tosl kept her busy. Concerts and festivals made it hard to do my homework. There was so much music to learn and we always got tested in quartets. The girls in Bel Cantos agreed that they missed the lower sound the guys produced, but Stacey said that Mr, Keller had found some great selections for them. My friends think its great when l tell them about our trip to Arizona and getting to ski and stuff. Stacey said and added that school, for her, wouldn't be the same without Bel Cantos. i'lt makes school go faster! Although it was her first year, Stacey Madden was an important part of Bel Cantos. Madden Flea rin Q. ff g fj' A revolution in Patrick l-lenry's choral mu- sic history occurred last year - for the first time, a well-known group was made up solely of the female sex! The department had always been a little short of men, yet managed to keep up an excellent top choral group. Finally, however, Bel Cantos had reached the bottom of the barrel. We had to make a choice, lamented Mr. Keller. The kids wanted to maintain their past standard of excellence, but lacked the men with the cali- ber voices neededf' So, the Bel Cantos re- sorted to an all-girl singing group. The girls seemed to think that they moved faster with- out the men, but, of course missed them. It remained to be seen whether or not this was a permanent change. 262 Associations
