EEEEEK Did you ever hear of a bug that went Vroom Vroomln? Well, these did, No, they were not the kind with black furry bodies and eight legsg they had four wheels, a running board and an engine. They were Volkswagons. Two species of V.W.'s were Cal and Baja Bugs. ll just like them. Cal, short for California, Bugs were built for racing - they were lowered and had a different motor. Cal Bugs could reach speeds over 100 mph. All the chrome was taken off and the bump- -- Q ,, , A t . .. ' 1-:w i ' .frf 1, r it UG! ers were replaced with t-bars. Baja Bugs were for off-roading. They were jacked up and had a fiberglass front. Their engine showed. Fixing up Volkswagen Bugs could be a long and expensive hobby, up to four thousand dollars and one year. A Cal or Baja Bug usually sold for twenty-five hundred dollars. Scott Richeson, Lisa Calton, Arlene Wiza, Scott Billion, and Leah Hudson are a few students who own Bugs. They got their equipment from swap meets, special stores or the Bug-in, which is a yearly festival for Volkswagon Bugs. Referring to the Bug-in, one owner com- mented, it's an awesome experience. When asked why he had a Bug, a stu- dent simply replied, I just like them. M. you get a feeling of power. lt's a way to let out your aggres- sions. Also, it sounds good and it's fun! Why did you dye your hair? lt isn't dyed. The color was removed, not put in. I thought a blonde spot on me would look, well, shocking! I'm so dark, when I got a blonde spot it com- Sophomores pletely clashed! I think it looks good. What are your beliefs? Our beliefs are, basically, the same as everyone elses but we act differently and look differ- ent. Whatdoyourparentsthink? They don't know what to think. They had never come up against anything like it before. Gne reason I had my blonde spot put in was because my parents never took what l said seriously. Now they take every- thing seriously.
