There was some resentment on the regular staff because he was an l.S. student. Mr. Litchfield, an advisor for Pa- triot Press, the school newspaper, I I tuden ts have to be self- disciplined. didn't take just anyone as an Inde- pendent Study student. The stu- dents have to be self-disciplined and have a sense of responsibility, ex- plained Mr. Litchfield. The students were treated exactly the same as the other students in the class. They were expected to make their dead- lines. Having Independent Study Journalism was harder than being in the classroom, since the students missed the lectures and tips on writ- ing. Even though they did not go to the classroom, the 1.5. student con- tributed just as much to the newspa- per. Mr. Litchfield, an advisor of the Patriot Press, looks over the latest edition of the newspaper. Fortu- nately, the sophomores had a great team of Junior Varsity Cheerleaders led by captain Brenda Deitrich to help them break into a spirited school year. 'Cheerleading is exhausting and tiring, but is super fun and has brought us all closer together! said Carol Toledo. The cheerleaders were a great way to include sophomores in the new rallies, fundraisers and com- petitions so different from 9th grade. Courtney Hayashi and Kristy Duncan agreed that cheer has really includ- ed us in all activities of the school. Summer cheer camp, two hour practices during vacation and prac- tice every day after school all contrib- ute to the great way the team per- ' I here are always fun things going on. formed their eight routines.
