The junior year was most important to peo- ple thinking about college as were those two tests - P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. Fortunately, several prep courses were available to take some of the pressure and mystery out of the famous tests. Sponsored by the P.T.A., the most popular class was taught Wednesday and Thursday nights from 6:30-8:45. The course covered both English and Math on the test and included an S.A.T. Prep book plus two very dedi- cated teachers, Mr. Turley and Mrs. Bewcomb. HThe teachers really tried, said Maria Billion, They had to be pa- tient because 90070 ofthe people didn't want to be there. I guess their parents pressured them to go, but it was bad for the class atmosphere. Toward the end of class people would leave, start talk- ing or throwing thingsfl The class was given homework as- signments from the book totaling about an hour a night. '5The kids have to be Il o one Checks your homework or takes roll self-motivated because no one checks your homework or takes roll. You're really on your own, one student re- marked. That sums up most high school-age kids position, to succeed they have to want to.
