Th e K id in th M id dl The junior year is considered by most to be the toughest one in high school, both academically and mental- ly. The survivors will vouch for that. Classes were challenging, including American Cultures, Advanced Place- ment History, and American Litera- ture. Many took their P.S.A.T. and went on to their first S.A.T. Ult seems like all I do is take tests, remarked Donna Linsk. The first feelings of an- ticipation and dread were felt as stu- dents began to turn their minds toward scholarship, college, and facing a larg- er world. The junior class was represented with spirit and devotion by an energetic class cabinet. Fundraisers like the Bal- loon Sale and Candy Cane Sale en- abled them to work for a successful Homecoming Float and a fun Junior Prom. 'fThe best thing is having our li- censes, one student remarked, ul feel so much more independent and in con- trol of thingsf' Not all juniors relished being 'Sweet Sixteen, 'fl can't wait until l am a seniorll' revealed Lisa de- Kozan. All I have this year is hard classes, tons of homework and tests. For some, being a junior meant final- ly being able to join in activities. As a sophomore, dances and competitions were more of a worry than fun. Finally, for juniors, school activities weren't scary, just fun. The scary part was realizing how close graduation and adulthood had be- come. MWhen l started thinking about leaving home and going off to college I wished I was six again! said Jodi Meltzer. Most juniors now understood H ll I do is take tests the specialness of being a senior. 'iYou want to make the last year you are in high school the most fun, the youngest and in some ways, the longest said Rich Sootkoos. Eleventh grade may not have been the most remembered, but for the class of '84, the year was special. arg,-Ag. , I K 'ii, rf U1 r ti-lx :ET 4525122 13' 2 e sim r r' 7' , KTSV: ,, U 1 ' X ,, Z as ,, ,, -W w ,r- a 1-2 ,, 1 . Float To Gloat bout junior float sweeps awards at Homecoming The year was off and running and home- coming was around the bend. The juniors were determined to make their float the best ever and they chose to make a replica of Noah's Ark. l thought we never would get done, said Charlotte Price. i'Different colored napkins littered the driveway and there was blue paint in the street. One of the biggest problems was locating brown napkins. HWe cleaned out every ma- jor store in San Diego, but we still needed more the morning of Homecoming. 'LLuck' ily, Big Bear got their shipment in two hours before the parade started,'l said Jodi Meltzer, Mrs. Witte gave the use of her garage to the worthy cause and claimed, HI got wor- ried in the middle of the night and kept getting up to check on it! The juniors would have accomplished . ,W nothing had it not been for Mr. Blevins and his truck and float chairman Craig Bouck. L'We had to spray paint in the dark. When we got up in the morning it was hor- rid! exclaimed Liz Howard. We finally settled down to work on Friday, when most of the committee had gexcuse from class' slips for the dayf' Something was accomplished - the float won two awards - 'iBest overall float, and Principals choice, before it was rained on. Not all of the excitement was confined to the building of the float, or even to winning. The night before Homecoming, the juniors were still trying to pinpoint the location of the senior float. l had a lot of fun, said Suzanne Meier. The best part was spying on the seniors, or actually, having them spy on us. ,fn K 9, .3-F 4-it bk? -f r sf W ,xl X vi 1 W, .ig .xii 4 'Pg 1 ' T Debbie Davis Jimmy Davis , ,,,,, Mama Davis rs ,. ,.' -- ,rg, Sandra Dawson , 'l L 'Ji T Richard Deeb fm ,V - 3 Kim Delnlass 5 'T ' Lisa De Kozan Beronica Delarosa Andrea Delavan if F, Cheryl Dement I , Lisa DeNino - ,V B 3 Donna Dennis we ' ' ,H H Angie Denny -, -r ' ' g Marilyn Denoncourt ' H Rodney Detrick i g Bountheung Dethsy :XM r Jeffrey Deutch Robert Deutschman Michael Devoe Laura Devore Rocky Devtxisy Yvette Dicarlo Brian Diefenderfer Dee Dee Dillard Nancy Dirksen A Nick Distefano Derek Ditz Michele Donais Jennifer Doria Debbi Dossey , Dokmay Dovangtasavanh Pauline Dowd Pam Dowdv Colleen Doyle Kim Doyle Deanne Drees in ,VV lrma Drew ..
