if Valedictorians from the job Angle These four Valedictorians all agreed that the one thing they wish they had had more of during high school was time. Mark Geisler, Rachel Millstone, Gigi Garrocq, and Sharon Merrow have all maintained a 4.00 G.P.A. while working, either on a professional or volunteer basis. Mark worked for almost two years as a clerk at Alpha Beta, the youngest one in its histo- ry. Although Mark worked up to thirty hours a week, he was still driven to do well in school. He explained that his motivation came from his desire to be the first in my family to go to college. While her inspira- N 'd make myself do it. ..,,? 1? x 'P Q! tion came from other sources, Rachel also managed to stay at the top of her class and work as a volunteer at Grossmont Hospi- tal and in the food services department at the zoo. Rachel felt that her friends were a big help to her. She said that study ses- sions with friends were really importantfl Gigi also volunteered and held a paying job. She was a peer tutor as well as a spanish teacher at Forte Elementary school. She also worked for Nordstrom Department Store. Gigi's secret was sim- ply 'fknowing that l could do everything, and just doing it. Sharon did volunteer work at Childrenls Hospital and as a tutor. She also did some work for a computer company. She said that keeping busy was the way she got everything done, because Hif l knew l didn't have much time, then l'd make myself do it. So you could begin a career in tenth grade? ROP was the plan for many students this year, and enroll- ment grows every semester. Classes such as metal shop, interior decorating and inter- national trades were offered at schools all over the city and the only price they had to pay was a sometimes lengthy bus ride. Cyndi Stephens was a stu- dent who chose to begin her career as a senior.
