Patrick Henry From A Senior Angle Patriots see our school from different angles - but how about a person compar- ing it to a school back East? For Monica Bruce, coming to this school as a junior was a different experience. Everyone had known each other for a long time and the cliques were already established. It's hard to break in and make new friends, especially when the school is so big. Monica said she knew almost all of the people at her school in Virginia, and here just her own group. lt's too bad, I think you need to be exposed to a lot of different kinds of peo- ple - not the kinds you like in your own clique. To Monica, the school is a little imper- sonal, and is keeping that in mind while looking into colleges. I had better rela- tionships with more of the students at my old school - maybe in college there'll be more opportunity to meet different types of people. As a senior, Monica doesnft feel any older than the rest of the students, though she feels she has more responsibility and more work. Seniors are always busy with applications, homework, and jobs, lt's a bogged down year! Realizing it's a step toward adulthood, many devote more time to their studies and learning. I think thatls what your senior year is all about - getting ready for college and learning to take more and more responsibility. Monica Bruce, a college-bound senior, discusses the problems of being a newcomer to such a large school. She finds it difficult breaking into the many cliques and meeting a variety of people. i px, . The Senior Dues Card has been a prac- tical tradition at Henry for many years. However, this year's Senior Class found many reasons to discontinue the dues cards. There were two main reasons that the cards originated. Most important of the two is that it, as Senior Class Officer, Athena Delimitros, explained, put mon' ey into the Senior bank account. which made it possible to put down-payments on the many senior activities. Secondly, it provided the Seniors with a modest dis- count on events such as the prom. However, the Senior Class Cabinet found the need for the Senior Dues Cards obsolete. Due to successful fund-raisers in ll I would have been an outrageous expense. the past two years. the Senior bank was in Mary Holt Teresa Hoover Thx 4 the memories Luv U all My aim is true, KT, KL, SK, HM, CD, SK, CK, KN. Michael Hunter Rachel Hunter excellent shape to handle any expenses. Also, there were changes made which in- terfered with the practicality of the cards. One of the major differences was the change of location of the Senior Prom. The Prom, held at Sea World for the first time, was double the price of what the prom cost in previous years. Athena stat- ed, 'iThe Seniors would not have saved a significant amount of money, and the total price of the card would have been an out- rageous expensef, For these reasons Sen- iors had to purchase their yearbook, Prom bid, and Senior luncheon tickets separate- ly.
