Kollmeyer I A Pitch For Nick Being a versatile athlete, Nick plays shortstop and pitcher. Who would sit all by himself, in a small beach chair, in the team room, with a Hawaiian hat on, a corn cob pipe in his mouth, spitting tobacco chew into an empty potato chip bag? There could be only one person doing this . . . Nick Alcorta. You might say I'm unique. Like most all of us, he likes to get away every once in a while. He thinks ll OU might say I'm unique. and tries to find himself. I haven't done it yet, he added. I'Ie's a little different, said Coach Bob lmlay, but Nick adds spark to the team. Alcorta tried to take over as leader this year. At shortstop I feel responsible and involved, and at pitch- er I get to experience leadership. Al- corta has become a fine ballplayer with a competitive streak and a wealth of talent. I like the competition but I en- joy the people most of all. Varsity Basketball 121

,,, 3 ' s HThey're the heart of the team, said Coach lmlay. The power up the middle came from the trio of Darren Riley, Jeff Jensen, and Nick Alcorta, who led the team to victory many times. All were returning varsity mem- bers and made All League Team last year. They batted 1,2,3 in the lineup, which proved to be a strong point in the Patriot repertoire. Riley played centerfield and had the strong arm and quickness necessary to play that position well. He also batted left-handed with a lot of power. Jensen was another solid hitter. With his quick feet and strong arm, he' was a fine catcher. Shortstop and pitcher Nick Alcorta was another great asset to the team. Other players, like strong armed pitcher Steve Chasteen, helped the 120 Athletics oCro d team to victory. Kevin Tahan was one of the new 'Aexcitingw players who hit the ball often. Location: The homes of eight junior and senior gymnasts. They awoke and dressed quietly. 4:00 A.M. Location: The home of Lynn Allison. Allison was frantic as they barked out, HPut on a bathrobe, this is a kidnap! They tied her hands together and threw a pillowcase over her head. Quietly they sneaked back out to their cars. 5:15 A.M. All 14 sophomore gymnists had been kidnapped. KNOW for the funll 5:30 A.M. Location: Patrick Henry. Pictures were taken of the kidnapees. Statements were recorded. Why are you doing this to me? l'm not moving another step! said Karen Windsor. 'll want to go home, screamed Sandy Vandenbergh. 7:00 A.M. Location: Jimmy's Family Restaurant. Breakfast lat lastll was served to the kidnapees, as well as the 122 Athletics kidnapers. Some of the kidnapees showed some definite signs of brain damage. We want hamburgers, with lots of catsupf' said Debbie Dossey and Cathy Zug. Girls' Gymnastics showed a high sense of spirit through the entire year. From kidnapping to bar-b-ques to win- ning tournament after tournament: the team was a huge success. P.l-l.
