Clay strongly disliked the every day routine of school when he was a freshman at Nogales High School. It was there he started running. No, this isn't a mis- print, it was the sounds of the Patriot Track Team leaping over the hurdles, and landing in a mud puddle. With the opening of the season, came the rainiest streak of weather San Diego had had in a long time, said ll rack had a tough time with the rain. Coach Runge, head track coach. The weather unfortunately postponed the opening meet, and made for sluggish practice and slippery play. It was a real drag because of the rain, we had to work out in the weight room, l would've much rather been improving my jump, said James Gregory. Boys track had a tough time with the rain - Maybe even more so than girls . . . Have you ever tried stuffing 30 guys into a weight room because it was too wet outside? ln track, as well as field, timing was an important aspect for training of our Patriots. A'Timing is the ultimate in the relay, when one guy's off, man we are all off, said James Gregory. From the hand-off in the relay, to the shot in the shot putters guide, timing was what led our boys track and field team to victory after victory.
