What's My Time? Putting all her efforts into the finish, Eileen Dyer displays her athletic ability. . C What's my time, Coach Lowry? Did I do it? This question was asked over and over as Eileen Dyer worked to set a new track record. I decided summer would be a good time to improve my running. So I ran and ran and ranf, Eileen ran over 700 miles last summer. 'Ll usually run at nightg I like the quiet, andil hate to sweatln Eileen comment- ed. I I . L ran and ran and ran! Eileerfs running paid off immensely for her. As a junior, she held records for the mile, two mile and 880. She also took first place at city conference, her time, a 13:50 in 2.3 miles. Eileen knows exactly where her success comes from. l never could! have done it without my mom and dad. They are always there supporting me in every' thing I do. My coach, Janet Lowry was super too. Eileen was a super cross country athlete and plans to keep right on running into her senior year. 108 Athletics Struggling to beat her opponent, Lolanda White races for the finish. New Balls For The Golf What's round and orange and flies about 2,000 yard in the air? A golfballl The golfballs used were bright orange, instead of the usual white. A'The balls were easier to see, said Todd Harris, but l still played the same golf. The golfballs were the big fad in the golf world. Not only were the golfballsfnew, but so was the entire golf team. With only three returning lettermen, the team started out as new as the balls they played with. t'Our team did well, even though we only had a couple of return- ing players. We excelled with what we hadfl said Coach Montague. l had Todd Harris concentrates on his shot, while Mike Adler holds the pin. Team fun. lt was fun being with new guys that hadn't played before for the team, said Steve Barker. ws., Aa Team captain, Ruth Saiz, starts out with a fast pace. Ruth was a three year letterwoman and thoroughly enjoyed running. Sandy Blethen, a sophomore, takes the homeward path. Sandy was ranked number two in the league. U--M ike Delight. Not again! Don't you realize our back aches and we have stomach cramps? Besides we need a shower dreadfully. Normal people run a cou- ple of times a week - why must we carry your feet every single day? And to top it off itls so cold right now. lt's Saturday do we have to work out . . . ? I I , just plain like it! If a Nike pair of shoes could talk, eleven pairs would be talking loud and clearg it knows the eleven runners of the girls cross country team. I don't know why I like to run. I just plain like it, I guess, said Janell Conrath. The girls ran every afternoon during the season and loved just about every min- ute of it. I love cross country runningg track is so boring . . . all you do is go around in circlesfl said Nancy McGIa- mery. The team was undefeated in the league, making them the Eastern League Champions. They also took City Conference. The team was led by outstanding players, Eileen Dyer, Yo- landa White, Janell Conrath, and team captain, Ruth Saiz. The whole team was outstanding, it was a really fun year, said Coach Lowry. . . . I guess we really shouldn't com- plain, it's good for our souls to be doing all this running.
