A Tall Tale Going up for a layup, Center Mark Ferguson scores two points against archrivals Morse. I use my weight l23Ol and my height t6'7'l7 constructively to gain the advantage. said Mark Ferguson start- ing Varsity center. Ferguson has been playing organized basketball since 6th grade when he played in a recreation league. He also played for Pershing Ju- nior High School and in 10th grade was J.V. center and was Varsity center in 11th. 'Ive always played center, I love the contact and competitiveness under the boards. said Mark. Mark is the leading scorer on the team, I get the ball more than the average center. The plays our team ran left me open for many shots. Even though Mark has been playing basketball for many years he still gets nervous before a game. I try to focus my nervousness into better play. 700 Athletics ,writ . 121, r n

'glf we had a chance to win a game we would have to play up to our potential. And we did a lot of the times. said Coach Ziegenfuss. HAny one of those guys could be in there at any time. They're interchangeable. The seven players were Mark Ferguson, Randy Hennis, Mike Brown, Godfrey Little, Kensey Smith, Howard Shooting a jumpshot from the top of the key. One instance was the Kearny game. Howard Wright came off the bench and brought the team back into the game and we eventually won. They still had a long way to go before they became a powerhouse. We need to work on passing the ball, perimeter shooting, and our patience with the ball, said Coach Ziengenfuss. I would also like to have seen some fan supportg it would have helped our morale. jumpin junior How many juniors does it take to fill up a basketball team? More than peo- ple ever realized. The team excelled with only two seniors. lf you look at the season compared to last year's it wasn't so great but by itself it could be said they had a good year. Since most of the team were juniors that could be expected. Ml think we did really well considering that almost everybody on the team were juniors. l think we will do really well next year, said starting varsity center Mark Ferguson. We really had a good group of people this year. and l enjoyed working with them, said Coach Ziegenfuss. The starting five are usually looked upon as the cream of the crop but this year the players ran very close in talent and skill, lt was difficult deciding who put in. The starting five and the men on the bench were very close in talent. This kept the team close in many games. ll hey have a love for it.
