Big Bryant muscles up for the shot. ,,, ,aww . f ,, ,. , ,, L , , , . dt, f The 1978-79 Patriot basketball team did not make the play- oHs desphe hawng one ofthe bestrecordsin the county Regular season opening losses to Morse in overtime, 50-49, and Kearny, 48-46, deprived the Patriots of a playoff birth. Led by All-League candidates, Sophomore Steve Brown, Se- niors Eddie Bryant and Don Fryer, the Patriots fought their way to a 20-7 record. Winning the Santana tournament in the preseason, the Patriots defeated Serra, Grossmont, and Mt. Carmel, winning the championship game 83-65. Don Fryer won the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award. Starters Kevin Hickey and Greg Meier made important contributions to the team's winning ways. Vic jackson and Brian Webb were pleasant surprises for the Patriots this year and returning lettermen Mike Fazekas, Mike Peterson, jerry Scalf, Kevin Smith, and Ernie Wright will help keep the winning tradition at Patncklienryintactforthe 1979-80 basketbaH season.
