Many said the Patriots were too small and inexperienced to survive in the powerful Eastern League. The 1978 Patriots proved these critics wrong. Playing with poise and de- termination, the Patriots fought their way into the playoffs. Carrying on their winning tradition, the Pa- triots beat Mira Mesa 28-6, before losing to Escondido 16-7 in C.l.F. competition. Good luck to next years team. Sports 31

Tennis Aces Mary Dell Chu reaches high for the ball. Foreign exchange student Cecilia Ekstedt shows her swedish style. The 1978-79 girls tennis team was a very young team. With about half of the team consisting of sophomores we were lacking a little in the experience department. The team placed fourth in the Eastern League. The top singles players were LeeAnn Standlee, Paula Breight, Sandra Braboy, and Catrine Bergstrom. Our top doubles players were Kim Castiglione and Cecilia Ekstedt, An- drea Carroll and Doris Hardy. Also, Catrine Bergstrom and Sandra Braboy teamed up together and won the Eastern League doubles title.
