PATRIOTS PRESS ON journalism 1-2 Class A newspaper staff strives for ex- cellence in several areas. Their product should be informative, helpful, enter- taining, and worth reading. This year's staff of the Patriot Press was a unique blend of individuals who met all the criteria of being a great newspaper staff. The Patriot Press, fondly called 'Parrot Poop by staffers, found read- ership in the surrounding community, and is virtually the only mass commu- nication at the school. i'VVrite to be read reads a sign hanging over Sam Turner's classroom. As advisor. he tries to instill that thought in all his students. Despite being a rookie news- paper advisor, he inspires everyone with his sheer enthusiasm. The staff was a talented one. A firm base of jour- nalistic knowledge was taught in the previous two years by Mrs. Cox. With Mr. Turner and his leadership follow- ing that base, the Patriot Press reached its full potential. This year. the Patrick Henry Speech Team retained its posi- tion as one of the most powerful in both the county and state. ln addition to many returning participants the team was strengthened by many novices which provided a strong base for another successful year in '77-78. Some members are looking forward to state and national contests. where the best speakers assemble for a National Tournament. The results are sure to support the fine reputation of both the team and Coach Chuck johnson. Our best luck to next years team.
