i wr- rf? 16 V Qi.VMrs. Sixty per cent of the student body at Patrick Henry elected to enroll in one or more of the seventeen courses offered by the Mathematics Department. Course content ranged from General Math to Honors Calculus. Eighty per cent of the 2400 students in math classes took one of the standard courses in Algebra, Geometry. and Trigonometry. Other courses offered included Technical Math lfeaturing practical applications of math to technical problems related to shop workl, Logical Reasoning lintroducing development of the skill for placing everyday experiences and arguments in logical form. with emphasis on validity testingl, Computers lan introduction to the operation and programming of desktop computersl, Time Share Terminal limplementing a program for enrichment topics in programming and Mathematical concepts amenable to computer solutionsl. The department also offered Math Seminars in probability Aand Modern Algebra for non-mathfscience oriented college prep students interested in majoring in such areas as life science, the social sciences, and business. Second Language offers opportunities in five languages on six levels. Spanish is the leading language of choice for a majority of our students with German, French, Hebrew, and Russian attracting the rest of our enrollment. Patrick Henry has planned a tutorial course now officially adopted for use in the district, Spanish students in their sixth year may choose to study for advanced placement in the California unversities. Patrick Henry students have earned many college credits in this way. Second Language, in conjunction with AFS, presents dessert night-an international entertainment evening that is becoming an area tradition.
