Social Studies John Halsey World Geography Can Be Fun Tim Parker Government Bill Hanner U.S. History Claudette Thompson sits amidst her clutter of textbooks, history papers, teaching Rich Tobler aides, and various other paraphernalia and thoughtfully considers a ninth Economics grader’s question on the Protestant Reformation. From the beginnings of time to the 1980 Summer Olympics, students study ancient history up to the most current events in the Social Studies department. In the ninth grade, stu¬ dents are required to choose between World History and World Geography. Courses in U.S. History and U.S. Government are required in the junior and senior years. Other courses, such as Sociology or Economics are also offered. John Halsey shrugs his shoulders and Claudette Thompson proclaims, “Teaching ninth graders World History just isn’t what it’s cracked up to be!” Rachel Williamson U.S. History Bill Hanner expounds on the similarities and differences between the North and the South as his U.S. History class listens with interest. Linda Giomo Special Education Students at the Patrick County High School have the opportunity to expand their horizons in not only academic and social areas, but also in the areas of the fine arts and mechanical arts. Students with special learning problems are taught to overcome their problems through the Special Education and Learning Disabilities programs. Other necessary services are offered to the students through the clinic, audio visual department and the library. Judy Knight shuffles index cards, and seems to be en¬ joying this one of her daily tasks.
