Realizing that High School days are ' happy days, we have attempted, in this volume, to portray the various phases of student life, and, to keep fresh in mind the names and faces of classmates and teachers, we have included photographs of the various classes and of the Faculty. If in future years this book proves to be a mlrror of the pleasant days at Patoka High School, our efforts shall not have been in vain. ' A A ,M f.yQ,-'f'- ' 'fl-A'Px ' :ffkif L. Such a person is Mary Louise. ' JEAN WHITE 5 To a person who has an appreciation of the Y Arts, life is never a dull, uninteresting affair. She has a very pleasing personality and is willing , to cooperate with not only the faculty bgt her school mates as well. She is a very dependable person and gets the work completed that is assigned 5 as. to her. She does not wait to be asked to help but 3 is observing and offers assistance readily. Q BERNIECE MARSH i'il' It has been said that WMusic washes away the dust of every day life.N Benny's interest lies in the field of music 4 and she has taken an active part in extra-curricular 5 activities, She has accompanied the Glee Club and 3 E Orchestra for the past three years. 3 Some day we'll be-proud to say Wwe knew Benny P Whbnaooooooon HARY ELLIOTT One senior of whom we will probably hear a p great deal in the future in the journalistic circle is Mary Elliott. She has attended Patoka High School three years, while attending one year at Battle Creek, Michigan. A Mary acted as assistant editor of the school paper during her junior year. As a senior she has Qgggiill been editor of the annual and school paper. These 3 are positions for which a student gets much criticism 3 and little praiseg yet they take ability, intelligencei patience, tact, and initiative. Mary has these qual- 2 ities as well as being able to make people like her. 5 Mary will go far in whatever she chooses to E do for she will do it well. RAYMOND GILPATRICK Our athletic teams will surely miss Raymond when the call is made next year. While in high school his opponents in basketball always feared his ability to hit the basket. In basketball he south-pawed with deadly accuracy. Raymond's performance in the senior class play, 'The Absent Minded Professorg' kept the large crowd in an up- roar. THOMAS GARRETT 'Tom'l' conservative ideas and willingness to do work for his school made him a valuable member of our class. He was a member of the student council for three years. we will not be surprised if Tom becomes an outstanding engineer some day. ROBERT FLEMING The making of a man depends largely on his willingness to accept responsibilityg take the bitter with the sweet and never dodge anything because it is hard. 'Bohn has lived the above thought since he entered Patoka High School. He especially ' displayed these characteristics in school subjects, athletic and extra-curricular activities. In September 1935 lb Freshmen were proudly situated in the Assembly. They were Mary Elliott, Tom Garrett, James Garwood, Mildred Garwood, Raymond Gilpatrick, Bert Jones, Charles Key, Berniece Marsh, James Moore, Kenneth Smith, Millard Spain, Mayme Stewart, Merietha wilkens, and Pauline williams. Jean White came here from Spring- A field, Illinois in November. Benny Marsh was a elected president of the class and she was also ele- cted yell leader. Merietha wilkens, Charles Key, and Mary Elliott 1 left the class but Mary Louise Morrison, Robert Fleming, and Marjorie Manning teamed up with the class. This gave the class the same number of students as there were in the Freshman class the preceeding year. Although quite a few started out in the Junior year, before it was ended the following had left the f class: James Moore, Bert Jones, willard Spain, and i James Garwood. Mary Elliott came back from Battle Creek, Michigan, this added one more to our total of 15. Several of the class ordered jackets at the beginning of the junior year. In October we present- 1 ed the play, WTom Sawyeru, under the direction of Miss Gilpatrick. The play was very successful and entertaining as well. was the junior-senior According to comments ed gyms for some time The main event of the year banquet held in the school gym. g it was one of the best decorat J At the beginning Marjorie Manning was elected class president. Berniece Marsh, Marjorie Manning, and Jean -'W' MMWM white of the class are members of the Glee Club, Robert Fleming, Jean Jhite, and Berniece Marsh are members of the school orchestra. Berniece Marsh has also been yell leader for 4 years. Past experience made him valuable to the team. He will be lost by graduation, vaugnn Meeks Vaughn, a regular forward, contributed more then his share of points scored. He was one of the cleverest ball-handlers on the team. His speed and ability to dribble made him a constant threat. Richard Byerly Dick, the tallest boy on the team, was con- sidered the best defensive player on our team.. Near the end of the season, Dick began to con- tribute his portion of the points. He has two more years on the team. Raymond Skelton NBones', as he is commonly called, was the smallest guard in the county. He was a very good offensive player, but his strongest points were his ability to hit, dribble, and fake. He has three more years on the team which is Ndefinitelyn something to look forward to. Robert Fleming Bob, a reserve guard, saw plenty of action in all the games, He orobably had more fighting spirit than any other player. He was considered a good defensive man. He are sorry to lose him by graduation. Iilmer Hart NGabbyU was an all-around good player. He worked part time at forward and part time at guard.
