COACH BASKETBALL Although defeated by Memorial of West New York in the opener played at Madison Square Garden, 43 to 30, the basketball team, following the example set by the football team, came back fighting, and as the season progressed be- gan to shape up as one of the best teams to represent Eastside. In the initial contest with Memorial on December 13, the Ghosts,' were com- pletely overshadowed in the first half by last year's Eastern States' Champions. Fighting bitterly in the second session, the Ghosts cut down on the West New York lead but could never come close enough to threaten. Paced by the 15 points of Larry Doby and the 13 of Luke Badagliacca the cagemen vanquished East Rutherford, 41 to 25, on December 19. All-State Larry Doby, captain of the team, and Luke Badagliacca have shown their ability to score and are among the best ball handlers in the state.. Lanky Les Harris can be counted on to retrieve the balls off the backboard and throw in points when necessary. Stan Altshuler and A1 Dybacki have excelled onthe defense. HENRY RUMANA The greatest quintet of our junior year boasting the big Hve of Doby, Miller, Hapgood, Brown, and Badagliacca, brought many honors and thrills to the school when they played superior ball to keep the Conference Championship within the portals of East- side. Outstanding rivalry was provided by Garfield, which fell a victim to the vanquishing Ghost basketeers the first game, but came back to win the second. The play-off game for the title Went to the Orange and Blue as a result of a 47 to 45 overtime game held on the neutral court of Hawthorne High School.

The Mustangs were greeted with four l touchdowns, two by land and two by air, for a 27 to 0 rout. L Hopes of remaining unbeaten were shattered on Election Day when the uIn- diansn from Passaic, in a rough and tumble affair, posted an 8 to 6 upset. This defeat only angered the l'Ghosts and they scared 20 points from East Rutherford to post a shutout victory. The visitors brought with them the famous Syracuse HY formation, which proved ineffective. A Pointing all season to their important tilt with Garfield, the Rossmen came if through and outfought the Boilermakers for a 13 to 0 victory. This win l shattered a streak of 16 straight unbeaten games compiled by the Argauermen. Led by Larry Doby's 60 yard touchdown run after a pass interception, and 1 the line bucking of Al Kachadurian, the Orange and Blue scored twice in the l second quarter, enough to offset any threat Garfield might have brought up. 1 The uUndertakers finished their schedule on Thanksgiving Day against their l downtown rivals and before 12,000 Patersonians unmercifully trounced the l Colts 45 to 6. Kachadurian threw 20 passes, completing 14 for live touch- l downs, three by Larry Doby, and one each by Fred Elsner and Heinz Suhl. Two other scores came on a line plunge by Kachy,' and an off tackle run by Lou Sylvester. This victory evened the city series with Central, both elevens evenly sharing 16 games and tying one. ,S raa r , as ' f J, KLM? ' l ' ff .
