The 'KCrite', supplies the students with cur- rent events and sports news of the school, and informs the student body of the progress of extracurricular activities. The climax of the newspaper's work comes annually, when under the sponsorship of the publication, the Queen of the Campus is crowned in a special assembly after a two month ballotting campaign. This was supervised last year by Janet White, former news editor. Outstanding members of the staff receive membership to 'tQuill and Scrolln, an international honorary society for high school journalists who show pro- ficiency in creative writing. Other deserving members are given recognition in the form of bronze and silver E's . The leadership this term was assumed by Editor-in-chief Jean McLuckie, who received the first gold EU ever awarded to a Criterion editor, and Managing Editor Harriet Parker, recipient of a silver EU, under the advisership of Mr. A. Duryee Crooks for the editorial department and Miss Ula Levin, for the business section. A division of the Criterion', is the public newspaper columns for conveying to outsiders the activities of the school. The voice of che student body on all affairs in which the faculty requests an opinion is the Student Council. This group represents a cross section of the school. Each section class elects a boy and a girl at the commencement of each term to represent it at the Council meetings and to act as leaders in transacting special business in the class-room, such as collecting the library fund and distributing the Criterion on publication Thursday. The presidency was taken over by Suzanne Polowe, former vice-president, in December, following the resignation of William Woodhouseg the duties of secretary-treasurer were carried out by Betty McLaughlin. Miss Marian Crooks is adviser to the Council. This governing body is active in co-operating with all student projects undertaken. It sponsored the UC. C. C. campaign Qsig- nifying courtesy, cleanliness, and co-operationj, which met with great success. It is a member of the New Jersey Association of Student Councils and also sends delegates to conferences of metropolitan secondary schools for discussing problems of student government. At times, as it sees Ht, the Council conducts social affairs to raise money. Last term the Council's efforts beautified the school grounds, by inducing the Board of Education to plant small hedges around the lawns adjacent to the gates, so that canvas will no longer be used during football games.
