We have seen Pater Noster grow from a relatively unknown school to the respected institution it is today. lt is very difficult to relate the apprehensions we had as freshmen in September of 1963. Today as we look back on our four years, we feel that our class has made a substantial contribution to the advancement of Pater Noster's reputation. Now as we prepare ourselves to meet the unknown future, we must express our gratitude to the Brothers. lay teachers, and coaches who have disciplined us spiritually, mentally and physically in order that we may become mature Christian men. ln appreciation for the aid they have given us, we will do all we can to make those associated with us in our four years of high school proud. Student Body no Officers 41410111411 ,, H Kampus ln this past year the road has been slow and rough, but the wheels of progress have accomplished a few unprecedented u t achievements with astounding effects. Within this last year the spirit of the Student Body rose to a level never before equaled. This change can be credited to a publicity committee, an , increased number of rallies and greater student cooperation. The g l! publicity committee was a five or six man team dedicated to the job of paper-ing the school inside and out with posters before big games and events. Thanks to a dedicated few who struggled against overwhelming odds, the students of Pater Noster have a Knight to remember. With increased school spirit and continued dedication, Pater Noster will continue to live and grow in the hearts of all those associated with this foundation. Winning only one game while losing eight might seem an unsuccessful season but Pate: Noster did itself proud. Two of our opponents went to the C. l. F. playoffs and two others were runner-up in their leagues. Although we gave up size, speed and 3 to 4 years of experience to our opponents the Eagles were tremendous on occasion and because of dedication, hard work and great team spirit they were close to victory in sorne games and overwhelmed two year old Agoura in our Homecoming game 51-6. I wish to thank the parents, faculty and student body for fine support and to congratulate the men on the team for outstanding hustle, spirit and dedication. They have set an example which next years team and those to come will follow and in so doing win the foo rio' Santa Fe League for Pater Noster. But the spirit of the lV's may be gauged by the fact rhar they were able to complete the season not only with a victory but also with a shut-out. In some losses the team was victorious everywhere but on the score board. ln both the St. Genevieve and Fairfax games, the ream gained over 300 yards, whereas the opposition gained a mere 150 yards. The only fault that could be found with the team was lack of depth. I hope rhat all the members ofthe squad will maintain their spirit and enthusiasm as varsity players. Vw I Q 4 . The 42-0 victory over Elsinore earned a special place in the hearts of Eagle fans, as it was the first football win in the schools short History. Eagle Freshmen were led offensively by the hard running of backs Wayne Encinas and Ed Martinez, along with the fine field generalship of quarterback John Atwell. The defensive team was spearheaded by great play from Larry Lingua, Vince Meyer, Rick Raimondo and Andy DeCaro, ln their last effort of the season the Freshmen joined forces with the Junior Varsity in a convincing victory over a stubborn Hollywood foe. Season kssvundiug Success Varsity Basketball had one of its best seasons ever this year. With eight returning lettennen, though none taller than 6 ft. 2 in. , the team provided a wealth of experience for its new coach. Because of the obvious height disadvantage the team had to make up for this with a tight man-to-man defense and full court press. Defense was so stressed that the offense was considered a month behind at the opening ofthe season. Highlights of the pre-season were resounding Jerry Tardie, Coach victories over Camino Real rivals Crespi, St. Monica 's, Murphy, and Angelus champion Cantwell. The Golden Eagles were shut out of the Amat-Bassett Tournament but rebounded with a second place finish in the Monica 's Tournament. The Eagles created a five straight win streak in league play, including St. Francis's first loss in league before falling to eventual champion Alemany. The last game of the first round against La Salle saw many school records fall. The final total of 106, combined scores of both teams. 64 points in the second half, 36 pts. in the third quarter, and an individual record of 37 pts. by Sherick all were records. The second round was fatal for the Eagles as they lost three games- Mission, St. Francis, and again Alemany. These tl1ree losses eliminated us from a playoff bid for C. l. F. and placed the Eagles in third place with a 10-4 record. A special thanks must be paid to both students and parents for their tremendous support of the team, including the first turnaway crowds in the schoo1's history. Those in attendance at the games saw Eagle basketball at its best. Your job this year will be to play and give experience to everybody, said Coach Tardie. Taking this advice and using the premise that we were to look ahead for the Varsity team, I feel that our year was very successful. Although hampered by a slow start. the team and players themselves progressed. Towards the end of the season we were at our peak. The team had a mixture of Freshmen, Sophomores and one Junior. The Frosh players were led by Dave Height frebounder and centerj and John Carrillo fforward and sometime posty. Dan Ramirez was a guard and did fine work on defense and at offensive playmaker. The Freshmen were rounded out by Dinius and Lugo who showed signs of future ability. We had several fine Sophomore prospects in Jim Taylor, Henry Moreno. Pat Henry and Jim Lee. Taylor had the hottest night of the year as he led us to a second victory over a fine St. Francis team. Moreno at guard was our most consistent player, averaging 10 points per game and 5-8 rebounds. Lee was the real leader on the floor and off. He was elected Captain and hustled every minute. Pat Henry dropped down from the Varsity to give us board K strength, and added greatly to our ,. , ' defense. Finally there was Junior 'Q Fix 1. , if ,si F .5 X yyf, Frank Morris who did a fine job and V. ' added scoring punch with his soft touch. 666 Basketball First Row L-R: Vincent Lucci, John ACevedo, Bob Beck, Terry Kane, Tim Farmer. We had our first football team, which represented us well. Next year Pater Nosner will enter Santa Fe League competition in football, something to look forward to. Our basketball team had an excellent season and was eliminated from C. I. F. only at the wire. A new Biology lab and an Educational Television System were installed. As a result of these things. school spirit was at a level never before reached. I hope the '67 Eagle does justice to this eventful year. A yearbook is quite a job and Iwould like to thank Mr. Hall and Mr. Stephenson for their help in reaching our deadlines. A special thanks to everyone at Christy and Shepherd for their help with our pictures. lt has been an honor to give the Student Body this yearbook, I'm glad it was my honor. x 1 vxxvvk, Tim Laidlaw Editor WX?
