Po ce Force Revised By Faculty Committee Cops to be Appointed By Teachers The rules and regulations for the student police force have been revised for the purpose of maintaining more orderly con duct rn the school building dur ing school hours They will be Cff6CtlV6 beginning September of the next school term Appointments to the force will be determined by a committee of faculty members appointed by the principal who in selecting must consider the following char 'rcterrstrcs of each boy courtesv responsibility reliability punct uality good deportment rnrtra trve discretion and neatness Jn appearance He must also be a regular Junior or senior The new order provides for some indication or identification of the cops positron such 1 uniform colored sweater MW, grae nzdzee Headed into the service of their country are Paul Bauts who wants to man a submarine and Paul Sanwald who wants to join the navy and see the world. Receiving' scholarships to aid their college Salvage Drive Ends, To Resume Next Year The final results have been an nounced on the P H S Salvage for Defense drive A total of S52 69 worth of paper and S1513 of metal was sold The metal sold included 2700 pounds of iron special Jacket permission fo the cops to attend all the home athletic events free using only their A A cards for admission and one half day of every mark credited An award will be made at the close of the term to those cop having the best record This organization will also af fect the student body whose criminally minded members will be deprived of school privileges a cordrng to the number of their offenses Penalties will range from staying after school to washing blackboards with a doubled sentence for failure to carry out a punishment eafzeenfi la fbefewie careers are Olivia Foster to Wel- lesley and Jean Biernacki to Seton Hall. Dot Frisco is headed for an office job, but nrst she wants to attend a business school. l Twenty Seven Boys To Serve As Farm Workers It may be necessary for farmers to employ school boys and per haps even girls to help with crops not only because a num ber of men have gone into the services and defense Jobs but be cause more food must be pro duced now than before the war Plans for youth in high schools to take over emergency argrcul tural work are being formulated y the United States Employ tion A total of twenty seven boys in P H S have signed up for this work twenty in the four teen to sixteen age group and even over sixteen No one un der fourteen rs eligible for this work because of the state labor laws The length of time the boys rn the different parts of the coun try will be called upon to work will range from a few days to three months Opportunities for framing in experienced boys will be given preferably through departments of vocational agriculture rf there are branches in the local com- munity or by the farmer hiring the students. School Work Adjusted It will be necessary for school authorities to provide for the use of boys before and after' school hours for excusing from school those needed at a certain time for the work and perhaps for adjusting school terms in order to make the boys available when needed. At the present time the State of New York provides for the release of students from school to work on farms provid- ed some provision is made for school work to be made up.
