SE IDR FACTS We enrolled in the fall of 1951 as green freshmen. The first big event was initiation, where 15 freshmen spent one hilarious day dressed up, and as Sophomore servants. The dance in the evening helped us bury all hatchets. Leah Jones was elected President, James Noethe, Vite-President. Carol Redman, Secretary and Treasurer, Rita Hamilton and Gary Simons to the Student Council. Later we sponsored a return dance for the Sophomores. James N. . Gary S. and Jerry R. represented us on the basketball team. Jim N. also began his baseball career as a freshman. Gary, Rita and Nola took part in the school play. Rita, Gary, Jim, Leah, Leonard, Mary, Lyle and Nola were members of band this year. Rita and Leah were appointed librarians and both held this job throughout their 4 years in high school. Mary, Nola, and Leah were among the 5 high sales- men in the magazine contest and went on a trip to the University Basketball Game. Having lost 3 members, Betty Howell, Carl Riggs, and Gary Simons, and gaining Beverly Lane, Francys Hayungs during the course of the year, as Sophomores we numbered 14. This year, Russell was elected Pres- ident, Rita, Vice-President, Leah, Secretary and Treasurer, Nola and Jerry to the Student Council. Ten Sophomores took an active part in the magazine contest and Jim, Leonard and Nola were awarded a trip to Madison. Jerry, Ken Garside, Lyle and Jim were on the basketball team this year. Emma Fuller. Francys, Nola, Mary. Carol and Rita were chorus members. Rita, Leah, Nola and Mary remained in the band this year. Jim received a baseball award for his efforts. Rita was Sales Manager of The Beaver , sponsored by the Seniors. We made about 886. 00 on the Sophomore Dance we gave to the Freshmen. This was, of course, a good ending of initiation day. It was more fun this year as we plotted and helped the Freshies become full pledged highschoolers. In the spring we ordered our class rings so we could wear them as soon as school started next year. Every student, I think, looks forward to their Junior year. Ours was a good year in which we learned much and had loads of fun. Our class rings arrived the first week of school and all were well pleased. We planned a dance for the first week in September. This helped our Prom fund which came in the spring. The magazine contest was held in September and 11 members did their share of the selling. Leah was business manager of it and Nola was a team captain. Early in the first semester, the Junior-Senior English class decided to publish a school paper. Mrs. Tornowske was our advisor of Beaver Tales. Leah was elected Editor, Russell as Art Editor, and Nola was elected Publisher. Nola was also Editor of Beaver Bits, the Patch Grove news that was sent to the Bloomington Record. ln December, we started to plan for our Prom. After much discussion and planning, we finally decided our theme would be Sweetheart of Sigma Chi The gym was decorated with white, pink, red, and blue crepe paper, white, pink and red carnations: also pennants of various colleges around the nation. A kissing rock was located near the stage. It was held on May 7th with Layton Blaine furnishing the music. James Noethe was elected King, and selected Leah Rae as Queen. The court included Jerry, Prince: Dora Quick, Princess: Russell, Dukeg Rita, Duchess: Leonard Meister, Lord: Ruby Braudt, Lady: Kenneth, Count: Marie Hayungs, Countess. We didn't make any profit on this dance but it is a dance that none of us will ever forget. Leah Rae, Rita, Nola and Mary took part in the All Girls Play. Francys was a prompter of the same. The baseball team included Russell, Jim, Jerry, and Lyle. These plus Kenneth were members of the basketball team. Francys H. was elected to the cheerleading squad and was named captain. In the fall of 1954, 14 Seniors enrolled for their last year of high school. Officers were President, Russell, Vice-President. Rita, Secretary, Nola, Treasurer, Fran, Student Council, Leah and Jim. On October 6, we observed a Senior Skip Day to have out pictures taken at Lancaster. The remainder of the day was spent in Dubuque, Iowa. One of the big class projects, was the publication of the Beaver. The Junior-Senior Class play selected was A 'Feudin' Over Yonder . lt will be given around April 15 in the gym. Rita, Jim, Mary and Nola were members of the band this year. Fran, Carol, Leah, Emma, Mary and Nola also took an active part in chorus. Jim, Jerry, Kenneth and Leonard were basketball lettermen this year. Captain of the cheer- leaders was a Senior this year, Nola Mae. Leah Rae acted as Band Majorette also. Our four years as high schoolers will come to a close on May 20, 1955. Commencement will be held on May 19 at the high school gym.
