DEDIC TIO We are proud to know that our parents and friends stand back of us in our school activities. Organizations such as the Parent Teachers Association, and Band Boosters help to develop better parent-teacher relations which make for a smoother running school. They have made it possible for us to enjoy the acoustics in the gym, the hot lunch program, our band uniforms, and several band instruments. To show our appreciation, we, the class of 1955 hereby dedicate our Annual, THE BEAVER, to the Parent Teachers' Association and Band Boosters of Patch Grove. Q V N xv.. m kfvrzhigex MISS HUMPHERY MR. The first big event was initiation, where 15 freshmen spent one hilarious day dressed up, and as Sophomore servants. The dance in the evening helped us bury all hatchets. Leah Jones was elected President, James Noethe, Vite-President. Carol Redman, Secretary and Treasurer, Rita Hamilton and Gary Simons to the Student Council. Later we sponsored a return dance for the Sophomores. James N. . Gary S. and Jerry R. represented us on the basketball team. Jim N. also began his baseball career as a freshman. Gary, Rita and Nola took part in the school play. Rita, Gary, Jim, Leah, Leonard, Mary, Lyle and Nola were members of band this year. Rita and Leah were appointed librarians and both held this job throughout their 4 years in high school. Mary, Nola, and Leah were among the 5 high sales- men in the magazine contest and went on a trip to the University Basketball Game. Having lost 3 members, Betty Howell, Carl Riggs, and Gary Simons, and gaining Beverly Lane, Francys Hayungs during the course of the year, as Sophomores we numbered 14. This year, Russell was elected Pres- ident, Rita, Vice-President, Leah, Secretary and Treasurer, Nola and Jerry to the Student Council. Ten Sophomores took an active part in the magazine contest and Jim, Leonard and Nola were awarded a trip to Madison. Jerry, Ken Garside, Lyle and Jim were on the basketball team this year. Emma Fuller. Francys, Nola, Mary. Carol and Rita were chorus members. Rita, Leah, Nola and Mary remained in the band this year. Jim received a baseball award for his efforts. Rita was Sales Manager of The Beaver , sponsored by the Seniors. We made about 886. 00 on the Sophomore Dance we gave to the Freshmen. This was, of course, a good ending of initiation day. It was more fun this year as we plotted and helped the Freshies become full pledged highschoolers. In the spring we ordered our class rings so we could wear them as soon as school started next year. Every student, I think, looks forward to their Junior year. Ours was a good year in which we learned much and had loads of fun. Our class rings arrived the first week of school and all were well pleased. We planned a dance for the first week in September. This helped our Prom fund which came in the spring. The magazine contest was held in September and 11 members did their share of the selling. Leah was business manager of it and Nola was a team captain. Early in the first semester, the Junior-Senior English class decided to publish a school paper. Mrs. Tornowske was our advisor of Beaver Tales. Leah was elected Editor, Russell as Art Editor, and Nola was elected Publisher. Nola was also Editor of Beaver Bits, the Patch Grove news that was sent to the Bloomington Record. ln December, we started to plan for our Prom. After much discussion and planning, we finally decided our theme would be Sweetheart of Sigma Chi The gym was decorated with white, pink, red, and blue crepe paper, white, pink and red carnations: also pennants of various colleges around the nation. A kissing rock was located near the stage. It was held on May 7th with Layton Blaine furnishing the music. James Noethe was elected King, and selected Leah Rae as Queen. The court included Jerry, Prince: Dora Quick, Princess: Russell, Dukeg Rita, Duchess: Leonard Meister, Lord: Ruby Braudt, Lady: Kenneth, Count: Marie Hayungs, Countess. We didn't make any profit on this dance but it is a dance that none of us will ever forget. Leah Rae, Rita, Nola and Mary took part in the All Girls Play. Francys was a prompter of the same. The baseball team included Russell, Jim, Jerry, and Lyle. These plus Kenneth were members of the basketball team. Francys H. was elected to the cheerleading squad and was named captain. In the fall of 1954, 14 Seniors enrolled for their last year of high school. Officers were President, Russell, Vice-President. Rita, Secretary, Nola, Treasurer, Fran, Student Council, Leah and Jim. On October 6, we observed a Senior Skip Day to have out pictures taken at Lancaster. The remainder of the day was spent in Dubuque, Iowa. One of the big class projects, was the publication of the Beaver. The Junior-Senior Class play selected was A 'Feudin' Over Yonder . lt will be given around April 15 in the gym. Rita, Jim, Mary and Nola were members of the band this year. Fran, Carol, Leah, Emma, Mary and Nola also took an active part in chorus. Jim, Jerry, Kenneth and Leonard were basketball lettermen this year. Captain of the cheer- leaders was a Senior this year, Nola Mae. Leah Rae acted as Band Majorette also. Our four years as high schoolers will come to a close on May 20, 1955. Commencement will be held on May 19 at the high school gym. SENIOR PROPHECY June 18, 1965 Dear Carol, Everyone was sorry you weren't able to return for our class reunion and picnic. We spent an almost perfect day at the Garside Gardens , just I0 miles west 'of Madison, Wis. You knew of course, that Kenny was owner and manager of this beautiful 50 acre resort. In the aftemoon the men played a round of golf but it was an easy victory for Dale Braudt. Just think, after three years he still holds the title of World's champion Golfer , Nola Mae arrived a little late from the Belgian Congo where she is teaching the natives how to play the cello. She says she enjoys her work immensely and after being there for two years she is getting adjusted to the climate. Leonard Meister drove up from Indianapolis, Ind. , where he recently won the speedway race. Yes, he is in the big money now because as a side line he manufactures baby bottles. Fran and her family arrived quite early. Did I tell you before that she married Joseph McCarthy's brother, Charlie? They live in New Orleans where they own and operate an oyster farm. Jim Noethe was enjoying his month's vacation from the office. He has had several of his essays printed in the l-long Kong Herald. fl-le always wrote such interesting articles in English, remember? 2 PU Last year he won the Pulitzer Prize on the essay, The Relationship Between the Fly and the Maggot. Russ Palmer recently completed a two year engagement with the Ridge Riders . In August he will continue his music with the Phil Harmonic Symphony. Even in high school I know he preferred classical music. He didn't mention anything about his singing, but I imagine he'll continue giving lessons to Marie. Mary Moore has been kept quite busy. After mining uranium in Canada for seven years, she has finally settled on a farm near Patch Grove. lwwrote you fefore that Emma Jean Fuller was in the Ozarks demonstrating the Many Uses of a Burnt Out Light Bulb . She must be doing quite well as she sported a '65 Brick at the picnic. It was her first trip back after spending five years there. We have another teacher in the classl Lyle Posten is doing quite well in Alaska. He's been busy with those seals nigh on these eight years. My how time does flyl I 1 It seems they should learn to balance that ball pretty soonl Leah left her laboratory long enough to join us for our dinner, She was restless though, as her every spare minute is spent on her latest experiment. She wouldn't reveal much information: but splitting a pea must be quite a task. We were ready to start our feast when a helicopter landed on the lawn. We recognized the oil millionaire from Texas as soon as he stepped from the machine. Yes, Jerry Redman is certainly proving his business ability. Our picnic was a huge success. We missed you though. I didn't mention It before but every class- mate brought his family. I am still teaching in 'a small country school just outside Paris, France. Our picnic was a good excuse for me to be able to come back for a visit. Say, Carol, why don't you settle down? After all don't you think that six years of bull fighting is enough for any person? P? 77 Please come and see us soon. Write when you have time. Sincerely, Rita Hamilton L ST WILL AND TESTAME T We the Seniors of Patch Grove High School of the Town and Township of Patch Grove, County of Grant, State of Wisconsin, of the United States, on the Continent of North America in the Western Hemisphere, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, execute, publish, and declare this to be our last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and annulling all former Wills by us made. Meister e e f ' sm f L ' :: JU IOR In the year of 1952, fourteen of us were here to take the cue. Our acquaintance was made by initia tion, and the Sophomores gave us a dance. We gave a return party to the Sophomores. Our Freshman year ended well. 1 lve members, Nancy Valdovinos and Marla Webster left us Our Sophomore year began with on y twe And during the year, Arnold Cuchna left us, leaving only eleven. Now it was our turn to give the Freshmen a chance to present laughs to all by initiation. A couple of the boys joined the basketball team. In the spring we ordered our class rings and we waited patiently for the summer to pass. In the fall of 1954, we gave a class dance, that aided our class funds. By September 4th, we had our class rings and had settled down for prom plans. We chose Moonlight and Roses as our theme and Gus Furhman is to provide the music. This year we have twelve in our class, because Bernard Meister has joined us. We are looking forward to a successful Senior year. SN APSHUTS M om of L. Harper C. Neises D. Quick B. S. Krade R. Kellogg SOPHOMORE REVIEW We are the sophisticated sophomores and we feel much better this year with the fresh- men under us and being one of the older classmen. Initiation was a good beginning for the year, when as freshmen we provided lots of laughs for all the high school. Exactly one year later, however, we evened the score when we took over initiation of the new freshmen class. The customary dance in the evening saw the bury- ing of all hatchets. We lost George Webster and Marla Webster, but gained Lucille Kellogg and Betty Burkholder. The officers this year are: Raymond Moris, president, Barbara Skrade, vice-presidentg Dora Quick, secretary-treasurer: Carol Neises and Linda Harper, student council. We have several boys on the basketball team. During the next two years we hope to give our school the best service possible. Qin we-Emi is ijfels af? We anxiously received our books and assignments, then settled down and tried to study. Several weeks later, we elected officers. They are President, Joe Zenzg Vice-President, Pat Noetheg Secretary and Treasurer, Shirley l-Iaberichterg Student Council, Alvena Finn and Bob Anderson. Other members of the class are: Janice Turben, Beverly Kruger, Karen Monroe, Judy Cuchna, Veronica Webb, Lyle Finn, Francis Bass, Ivan Key, and Jerry Ellis. Karen was named our librarian. Every Freshman dreads it, but we had loads of fun on our Initiation Day the last of October. There was a stage show in the gym, and we had to wear our crazy clothes all day. The Sophomores let us be ourselves again when we went to the dance they gave in our honor that evening. To make money, we sold candy, gum, peanuts, and pop at a basketball game, and pop at one of the baseball games. Lyle Finn represented our class on the baseball team. Members of the Freshman Class who play on the basketball team are Bob A. , Jerry E. , Joe Z. , Lyle F. , and Ivan K. Lyle F. , Judy C. , Karen M. , Bob A. . and Alvena F. are regular members of the band this year. At Christmas time, we sponsored a turkey raffle. Tickets were sold on a turkey, rabbit, and chicken. Mrs. Robert Lane won the turkey, Dora Bushbom, the rabbit, and Francys Hayungs won the chicken. We made 830. 00 on the raffle. We look back on a profitable year and hope that we will enjoy the next three years of high school as much as we have enjoyed this one. ' ' f S Mahal 1 I I WTI Wit ...W 'H Eiif? The next game the Beavers defeated Cassville 9 to 1. And Potosi 5 to 2. On April 20, we defeated Bloomington in a very thrilling game by 11 to 9. The team consisted of Palmer, Bushnell, Noethe, Moris, Hamilton, Wilkinson, Bradley, Jockimsen, Ellis, Richards, Redman and Tolle, coached by Ken Fuher. This team won a trophy and were co-champions of the West Grant League. Due to graduation of four of the team members, the team came back very weak, despite the fine efforts of Coach Thompson.
