Fi A , History at the i was the year i944 when Johnny Sophomore arrived atlPassaic Highfichool, bewildered by the problem of a war timergyrn programfand the of the new Student Council. ' J J Johnny well remembers the day he slicked himself up to attend the first Student Council Dance at the pre-inflation price of l5yt. Two months later, he made his debut as an opera star in the performance H. M. S, Pinaforef' The interest of the students continued to dwell on Music as they atterggled Mr. Maxwell Jarvis' first spring concert. r,s, , riJ13,kh ,A The month of November found Johnny's parents among the casualties at St. Mary's Hospital, suffering from the shock of their visit to Open House. A week later they were revived by the joyous news that Johnny and his fellow barriers had captured their twelfth state crown. g The new year i945 finally rolled around, and Johnny Sophomoreihecame Johnny Junior. This term the tables were reversed as the teachers were marked by the Middle States Evaluators. . Turning slightly sentimental, Johnny and the gang sent approioimately 400 Christmas cards to servicemen still overseas. Christmas spirit was still, prevalent as the Hilltop Star staff came forth with their red and green publication. Johnny's long years of toil and effort as a Junior were finally rewarded with the announcement of his promotion to the Senior Class. p J iili Reverting to peace-time measures, he arose with the roosters in orderito attend classes commencing at 8:30. Of course, Johnny made up for lost sleep while dozing over Newton's Gravitation Theory. . inspiration was given to those fellow students of Johnny's who were musically inclined, when Frankie Carle and Frank Daly made their appearance H. S. to judge the talents of the students, the bestgwere selectedifto play ia the All-Star Band, which performed at the Meadowbrook. The taients of Johnny's classmates were further displayed with the presentation of Stage Door by the Dramatics Club. . s - D , g How can any of thosesfiuclents who braved the Prom forget that colorful panorama depictiggicamivai scenes? it The month of October finally arrivediand with it a tumultuous roar from Johnny's gang, as the class rings made their appearance. November was a big month as it called for the assistance of every one to make the senlorpolay, Life of the Party, a success. December quickly passed, and then came the long waited month, 'for the mid-term seniors danced their last dance at the Senior Prom and walked their last mile to receive their diplomas. The rest of Johnny's classmates in the June class slowly, but surely, made their way to the end, graduating and following the steps of their mid-term classmates on to uncharted courses in the ever-changing world. 78

Joe Scangarella for mayor! And look at this. Coach Madgziak predicts another victory for his All Star Army Team. Plans for a third high school in Passaic are being drawn up by Madeline Bayer, Mary Ellen Fiske, and Barbara Decker. l never thought those girls would become famous architects. And what have we here? The new principal of Passaic High School, Dr. Robert Taylor, has announced a heavy program for the new term, with only six study periods a day for every student. Jack Liptak will be the new school dentist, with Angelina Falcone as his assistant. And l see that two new depart- ment heads have been chosen, Devra Schneider, head of the English depart- ment, and Helen Strelkowski, in charge of the French department. l never really thought they'd make it. Look here! Dr. Howard Bindelglass and Dr. Alan Feld, the country's leading baby doctors, have discovered a new method for painless operations. Harold Chapler, our ambassador to Latin America, has announced plans for an underground tunnel between Washington and Chile. Well, look at this! Edward Kerle, the celebrated drummer, will appear as guest of honor at Carnegie Hall with Jack Nadler's famous orchestra. Eileen Landow accompanies them as vocalist. So Merton Harris and Robert Teitlebaum are opening their new quiz kid show, with Carol Kessler and Nor- man Dickerman acting as judges. l thought that Carol would be a his- tory teacher, Rose Bagolie is di- recting, producing, and starring in her own play, The Late Life of the Party. 33080 NEWS Well, what do you know! Stuart T Bierman is going to try for the heavyweight championship boxing l title against Joe Louis at Madison -3 Square Garden. Confidence is ex- pressed by his manager, Buddy Feder.
