William Fredrickson N l94O the Passaic High School tennis team experienced a most successful season, winning all eight conference games, and losing only to Barringer during the entire season. The net men started the season with a 3-2 win over Clif- ton, the l939 league champion. ln the only match engaged in outside the league, Passaic took its first and only beating at the hands of Barringer by the score of 4-l. The team then bounced back to wallop Central Paterson by 4-l and later beat Clifton again by 3-2. Then on May l6 the team clinched the league title by a 4-l victory over Eastside Paterson which, ac- cording to Co-Captain Melvin Taub, was the hardest fought game of the season. The netmen went on to beat Garfield 4-l, and from then on the only thing that stopped them was the weather, when they were rained out of succeeding games with East Orange and Bloomfield. Back into the swing of things again, the team ran over Central Paterson by a score of 4-l, and again defeated Garfield by 3-2. The season was ended with a smashing 4-l victory over Paterson Eastside. Because of ineligibility and graduation there remain only three of last year's men around whom Coach Woods can build a new team. Wolkovits Coach Amasa Marks N l940 Passaic had a good track season, winning four and losing two meets. The annual interclass meet was followed by meets with Lodi, Lyndhurst, East Rutherford, Clifton, Eastside and the county meet at the Passaic stadium. During the season Passaic also had two intramural meets, one of which was won by the Blues, the other by the Reds. The outstanding meet was with Lodi, in which Passaic took every first place and won 6l3A1 to ISV4. ln it Captains Stewart and Stoy gathered 20 points between them. Passaic went on to defeat East Ruth- erford, Lyndhurst, and Clifton, but was defeated by a powerful East- side team. ln the annual County League meet between Passaic, Clifton, and Eastside, Passaic placed men in every event. A medal was awarded Captain Stewart for his magnificent run in the 440. Captain Stoy, John Dukich, and Wilbur Marshall placed in their respective meets. Co-Captains for l94l are John Dukich and Wilbur Marshall. Last year Dukich was outstanding in the 440, 880, running broad jump, and mile relay. Marshall paced the broad jumpers and instructed the fellows in all field events. Passaic expects to have a good l94l season with six meets, two intramurals, one interclass, and the annual county meet.
