BASKETBALL Although they were handicapped somewhat be- cause of the restricted use of school busses, the A's did a fine job of taking the county championship. In their first league game, the Bearcats were in fine shape. But the game was forfeited to us. The next game that came up was the Shandon Outlaws. The Bearcats made this rather a decisive game by a large margin of zo points. Following the game with Shandon was the battle with Atascadero Lirey- hounds, which everyone expected to be the hardest game. However, Bearcats showed their fight and took the game 36-16. The last of the league games was the Cambria Broncos, whom Bearcats over- whelmed by a score of 45-17. VVhen the final play off came with Santa Ynez the Bearcats were in the best of shape. The two guards were Darrel Mchlahan, who was a first ringer from last year, and Don Keefer, another one of last year's B's. The substitutes for the Paso Bearcats, who de- serve a lot of credit for sticking with the first string to make it the championship team, were Don Mastagni, Leo Woodward, Tilford Huff, and jim- my Wishusen. But as the season went on they proved their ability to play basketball by taking the northem half of the San Luis Obispo league. They could not go any further, because all games were stopped by the O.P.M. director. Their First game was with Templeton, a very hard fought game, but in the last minute Temple- ton won the game by one point.
