He is interested in spectator sports, reading and politics. Lf , -,:, . ,gy I K ,, ,, ,f', My ,,'f Mr. James Shepherd, world his- tory instructor, sponsors Discus- sion Club. He is extremely inter- ested in rehabilitation institutes. Paseo's Language Department provides students with an opportunity for learning French, Spanish and Latin, languages which may be invaluable in future years as the world grows ever smaller. The language laboratory is an outstanding feature of the Language Department. Stu- dents who take French and Spanish spend some time each week in the laboratory where they have an opportunity to hear lessons given by persons actually speaking the foreign language. This provides greater contact with the language and makes learn- ing easier. The langiuage curriculum enables students to familiarize themselves with the back- ground on which their own language is built. Miss Yvonne Baldwin, French in- structor, is the sponsor of Fleur de Lis. Her outside time is taken up by collecting stamps and play- ing the organ. Current affairs, contemporary issues, and world geography, three of the new courses added to the social studies curriculum, help students to better understand the world today. These courses endeavor to make students think for themselves in trying to provide solutions for social, economic and political problems. The Social Studies Department is making pupils more aware of the changing and making of history and how this process af- fects them. Mr. Luther Crocker, American History and current affairs in- structor, is also faculty sponsor of E n g i n e e r s Literary Society, Paseon and the Senior Class. His main outside activity is playing the organ. I1 Miss Laura Johnston is an Ameri- can History and contemporary is- sues teacher. She sponsors the Student Council. -...Q Mr. Harry L. From awkward eighth-graders mighty pirates grow Paseo's common learnings classes serve as a foundation from which eighth graders familiarize themselves with high school life. School business is conducted during this period and the pupils become ac- quainted with their student government. Both English and social studies are in- cluded in the common learnings program, thus, the new students have fewer teachers with whom they must adjust. Literature, handwriting, composition, formal gram- mar and spelling constitute the English course. lncluded in the social studies curriculum is history, geography and cur- rent affairs. The Missouri Constitution test, which is required by law, is the main criteria for the completion of this class. Mr. Thomas R. Adams, common learnings instructor, keeps phys- ically fit by riding his bicycle. Miss Rosemary Lee Davis, com- mon learnings instructor, sponsors Zetas Literary Society. He is interested in woodworking, forestry and chess. Mr. Kevin McShane, common learnings teacher, considers swim- ming his favorite pastime.
