PASEO'S GOODWILL AMBASSADOR Susan Carter became the first Paseo student to go on the Summer American Field Service Exchange Program. After her application was accepted by the New York offices she left in June on the S.S. Seven Seas. In Aachen, Germany she attended a girls' school for three weeks, worked in her German parents' restaurant and a German kindergarten. She also visited Bonn to see the governmental set-up and to the American embassy in Bad Gedesberg. She arrived home the end of August. Paseo was honored twice this year by two of our outstanding students who had the good fortune of being chosen to spend the summer abroad spreading good relations between the countries they visited and the United States. Being chosen as an International Junior Red Cross representative for this area, Mervin Schwedt spent two months of his summer vacation in Europe. As President of the City's junior Red Cross Chapter his interest in the organization was great. Because of this interest and after screening of many applicants, he was chosen along with 55 other students and five adults to represent the United States International Organization. While acting as a good will ambassador for the United States he spent 58 days visiting England and the Scandinavian countries. Mervin talking to General Gruen- ther, President of the American Red Cross, in Washington, D. C. EMEA Pirates greet Susan at airport. 25
