Without spirit, school is simply a place to go for 6 M hours 1405 minuteslj each day. PCHS has seen a long- awaited rebirth of school spirit this year. Students, teachers, and faculty members have all become more involved, in par- ticipation at pep rallies, in showing up at games, and in representing the school well off campus. This support has inspired our teams and helped them rise to great new heights. i'r, 1:1 ' W, ,Wy . , A ,lg l .aff ,iq r f jwwkg. cu'-1,5533 .. l r f'1afvf9fW ?f N5 1 a A emlfgllwgfejgggfy' H QQ- h R 3518594 4 2 X V' 'qgger d WT ,X-PM E AK Q, QW, rf in wifi l genial' KWW 1 H gn X E EMI! This season brings with it the beginning of the first semester and takes us to the brink of the new year. Fall also ushers in football and the other seasonal sports. It brings us sophomores and their new views, opinions, and dreams. This is not all that Autumn signifies. Outside, we see the leaves change color and begin to fall. The cycle of life is evident. Inside, as we see the old coming to an end, we feel within ourselves the anticipa- tion of new life to come. '-1 For seniors, the beginning of this year is the Autumn of a cycle in our lives. The time has come to let the old go and prepare to take hold of the new. The time is swiftly ap- proaching when we will experience a renewal, a rebirth, A NEW BEGINNING. A We kicked off our year in August with Band Camp. In two short weeks we worked on marching maneuvers and began to prepare for our show. By late August we started our Tuesday and Thursday night prac- tices. We utilized the few musicians we had to make our small band seem exciting. Being so small and young our morale had to be high. Doing so, motivation was the key to our success. Band f 29 On October 22, we competed in the Kathleen Marching Festival. We captured Superior ratings from the Drum Major and Majorettes. A week later we traveled to Leto for an ex- hibition show. On November 19, we were off to the FBA Marching Con- test. Despite the harsh judging, our band achieved an excellent rating. The next day we were invited to per- form at Sea World which seemed like a great way to end the march- ing season. But because of our champion football team, we were able to travel along to Palatka to give our support as well as a half- Clarinets and Flutes: First Row: A. Holiday, L. Rouche, S. Stone, L. For our community services, the Mayor of Dade City declared March 9 and 10 as Band Appreciation Days. It's been a trying but memorable year as our young band was driven with motivation that brought us through like champions. Tammy Hatton Drum Major Band f 31 They Sparkled in the Lights The end of summer marked the beginning of the work for the 1983- 84 Majorettes. Their hard work and dedication was well rewarded as they sparkled in the lights of the football half-time shows. This year the Majorettes had their fill of twirling. They participated with the band at Marching Festival, and by themselves at SolofEnsem- ble Contest where they picked up excellent ratings. Some of the special memories they'll treasure are performing with the band at Sea World and the Daytona Beach Music Festival, and most of all the state championship football games. The Majorettes would like to say thanks to all their supporters for a fun and exciting year. 3 fi 32 1 Majorettes Allison Beaumont, Alyse Dewitt, Tina Musgrove. We came together at the end of last year and spent a great deal of time together from May un- til February. Our squad this year has a vast mixture of people with varied talents and cheering ex- perience. It was hard in the begin- ning trying to learn, teach, get along, and work together as a squad, but as the football season progressed, so did we. The many hours that our squad and our sponsor, Donna Clark, have spent together over the past year have been priceless. We have not only developed together as a squad, but we've grown together as friends. We've been- through a lot together and we've shared many good times as well as some bad. Speaking as a senior, this year will be something I'lI never forget! Every now and then, when things got to be a little hectic, we'd find ourselves asking, Why did I ever become a cheerIeader? g but all regrets disappear when a little girl seeks you out after a game, tugs on your skirt, and tells you with a sparkle in her eye, You did so good tonight, I even learned a new cheer! It's then that you know it was all worth it. I would sincerely like to extend a special Thank You to each and every one of you on the squad and to our sponsor, Mrs. Donna Clark, for all her support. With 12 consecutive wins, a school record was set - the most wins of any seasons and the advancement to the semi-finals in the Florida High School 3A playoffs. Homecoming is the time of the year where a sense of excitement fills the air, a time when school spirit is at its peak. Homecoming is a driving spirit that can't be seen, but can produce surprising results. These are the words of a Varsity football player. Newcomers included Gloria Mullet, Audra Courier, Carolyn Hoyt, and Harriet Smith for the girls team. Ashlie Herrmann, a junior, was one of two returning letter winners from last year. Ashlie made the all con- ference and all district team this year. All five girls who advanced to regional this year will be returning again next year. Garner Willis and Thomas Bauer are the only seniors on the team and will be missed next year. Matt Erpenbeck, Scott Brown, Steve Brown, Wes Cummins, Tim Kreusch, Brad Richert, John Rine, Joel Rosenbarker and David Wise will all be returning in 1984 to give the Pirates depth and experience. What does winter mean to us? Christmastime, New Year's, getting serious about the business at hand, and much more. The football season ends, and basketball, track, and cross country get started. The cold air does not slow the activity at PCHS but gives the campus a clear, brisk atmosphere that has a beauty all its own. The old must pass away for the new to appear - that is the wonder of life. Old friends fade into the background as new friendships spring up. The trees put on a robe of mourning only to awaken with terrific splendor in the spring. Winter is the heart of our year and as we enter it we prepare to do what we are here to do: to learn, to grow, and to explore the boundless nature of life that is evident all year 'round. ThankYou Coach Broner The 1983184 basketball team took the first step toward reaffirming the dominance Pasco has had over the past 6 years. They captured the Gulf Coast Conference Championship on the strength of a rejuvenated enthusiasm first brought about by the appointment of Willie Broner as head coach. The Pirates began their season with a strong second place finish in the Florida Turkey Shoot-Out Basketball Tournament. They next brought to an end the longest winning streak in the state by beating last year's state champ, Osceola Kisseemmee. They finished their tough December schedule with a respectable 5-4 record. During the holidays, the Pirates , once again finished a strong runner-up, this time in the Zephyrhills Sun International. Pasco began the conference schedule as they returned to school and began winning games like they knew they could. They went through the conference with an incredible record of 13-1. The cagers advanced to the semi-finals of the district playoffs before losing a heartbreaker against rival, Zephyrhills. The team, though upset, could still be proud of themselves for giving that extra 11096. Two seniors honored as All-Gulf Coast Conference were forward, Amos Thompson and center, Sean Adams. Glenn Piersall was also a first team All-Gulf Coast Conference selection, the only junior honored. All the players deserve credit for working hard to make this a successful season and for returning to Pasco's winning tradition. Much of the credit, though, must go to a man not afraid to make the changes necessary, and excited enough that his enthusiasm for the game of basketball rubbed off on all those near him. Spring is a rebirth, a renewal of life. The tempo of life beats faster and all of our existence seems fuller and more complete. We look toward spring break and the year's end with anxious anticipation, while at the same time reflecting on the year which is winding down. Those of us who are seniors are aware that we are entering the home-stretch. This realization is accompanied by an overwhelming excitement and yet brings with it many fears of an uncertain future. As we look ahead to college, to a career, we have doubts. These doubts try to sway us from our M chosen path, and they might suc- ceed but for another, stronger feel- ing - that feeling of hope. All of us look to spring with hope. We take our strength from the regeneration of life that we see all around us. We dream, we hope, and then in the magnificence and wonder of springtime, we muster the strength and determination to fulfill those dreams. -,I I The Valentine's Dance was a new experience for PCHS. Despite these changes however, r. , 1' if 1 in It pays to go incognito. the dedication toward our award- winning book remained constant. The many hours spent choosing a theme, planning the decorations, organizing the servers, and arranging the refreshments all contribute to that one special eve- ning that many seniors and juniors anxiously await all year. After going out to dinner, couples started arriving at Whispering Oaks shortly after 8:00. At 9:30 most of the guests had arrived and at 10:00 the court was introduced to the crowd. Mark Jeter and Debbie D'Water were crowned King and Queen after which everyone danced to the theme song, Time will Reveal played by the band. More likely is the possibility that in our excite- ment, our zest for life, we gulped the time as a thirsty person does water. V1 Nevertheless, we have arrived at the end of another school year. We have been over the mountains and through the valleys. We have seen many wonderful new beginnings: consequently, we have seen some things pass away. As this school year draws to a close, as we ap- proach another partition in the cor ridors of our lives, let's climb to the mountain top one more time. Let's look back without regret and forward without fear. Sure, there will be more valleys, but just as sure is the hope of new moun- taintops: higher, more challenging, and more rewarding than those that have come before. Grad Nite. Each year, Walt Disney World presents a night full of magic times in the Magic Kingdom to the area's seniors. This is one of the most looked forward to events of the year and generally lives up to expectations. Students invade Walt Disney World late in the evening and spend the night exploring the sights and big name sounds of the Magic Kingdom. Grad Nite f 151 M. Cotter frt . G. Awards Day - that final day of the year when the Senior Class is rewarded for their three years of hard work 'and achieving. It all began at 7:30 on June 4 with the Senior Breakfast sponsored by Dick Jarrett. After a hardy breakfast, the seniors and their families headed over to the activities center where the seniors donned their caps and gowns and lined up in the locker rooms. When 9:00 arrived, the seniors marched into the activities center to the traditional Pomp and Circumstance. After the Invocation given by Rev. David Shaver and the Welcome given by Student Council President, Todd Piersall, all were seated and the cermeonies began. Many well deserved awards were presented to the seniors by the faculty, the administration, and community leaders. Scholarships were also awarded during the ceremonies. When all the awards had been presented, the ceremonies ended with Todd Pier- sall presenting Mike Smith with the Student Council gavel for next year. As the seniors marched back into the locker rooms, it not only ended Awards Day, but three long years of hard work by the seniors. From a Dying Senior As the graying sky dwindles to that emptiness, I can feel myself slipping away. Yes, I am dying. They have prepared for me a place for my funeral, and I shall be laid to rest there tonight. Already I am adorned by a burial gown. Yes, surely now I shall die. Suddenly urged to shout a farewell to this world, I part my lips, but nothing escapes them. I am too weak. Final- ly I submit to this inevitable fate, and behold, I catch a fleeting glimpse of my fading world. It has changed. Where is the laughter? Where is the excitement? 156 1 Graduation Where once could be heard, seen, even felt, the vibrant din of life, there is now only emptiness and a sense of universal loss. Will the world I now leave remember me? Oh please God, I want to leave something behind! Yes, even by my achievements in this world, inspired by this world, my name has been left behind to be seen by those who come after me. Content, I now turn from this world, and face my life after death. Scott Radloff After 12 years of hard work, the Class of 1984 marches in to receive their diplomas.
