The pain of these separations had never af- fected me before. Going through your first twelve years of school, you gain many friends that you grow accustomed to be- lng around as much as family. At a young age you are never really aware of the strength of these OT- tachments, but as time weaves its way, so does this bond. When you reach high school, you look around. A lot of your classmates' faces are as familiar as your own. But you don't stop to think about what it would be like if one school day none of these friendly faces were there. Soon your senior year rolls around just as mine has, and your classmates are deciding what they are go- ing to do when the year is over. This is when the reality of going out into the world starts hitting you. A tougher reallty perhaps is facing the fact that you must soon say au revoir to people you have literally grown up with. In previous years you have seen graduations and have watched others go and separate themselves from one another. Now you are on the brink of this experience yourself, which makes it a bit more dramatic. Until you experience this departure, you just don't understand its effects. It is a painful traditional ritual, a cutting off point which forces you to grow up, - Ricky Smalley - fa: D Q X fe I I D Pius 1-78.3 425 CGI-67 it S' 1' A AQ 'T' ,2 Q K A' K Q ,,f ', 4? By the end of morching season, we had only five very determin- ed flogs and three dedicated sabers. We were not discouraged. We attended the Florida Bond Association contest and received a ll for our efforts. We were pleased. We later went to Citrus County and morched in the worst kind of weather, but the adverse conditions did not keep us from receiving another second in the field show. We were very proud of all of our occomplishments. We proved to ourselves and others that quality was much more important than quontity. I hope next yeor's guard will work with equal dedication.
