ZOHanHUmU MRS. SUE LEGGETT The members of the 1985 Annual Staff have chosen to dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Sue Leggett. Mrs. Leggett graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1958. She continued her education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she ma- jored in History. She has taught the last seven years at the High School Main Campus. She has been a sponsor of many clubs including TARS and the PHS Bowl Team. She is presently one of the sponsors of the National Honor Society. Her good humor and ability to communicate with the students has made her a favorite of the PHS students. The DRILL TEAM and COLOR GUARD marched at all home football games, acted as ushers and paraded at several ship christenings, parades, county Air Show, and the Navy Bir- thday Ball. It competed in athletic and academic competitions at various colleges throughout the year. They did very well and represented Mississippi and the High School in the contests. : The unit received an ftexcellent rating in the annual inspection. BETA CLUB This year the BETA Club sponsored the school talent show tBETA F olliesl, spirit stickers for football, Teacher Appreciation Week, the annual BETA recognition ban- quet, the Beautiful Eyes contest, and water balloon toss. They also contributed to the Society to Prevent Blindness, caroled at a local nursing home, sent Christmas cards to teachers, and helped elect one of its members Uohn Ates1 as state BETA president. This year the N.H.S. was very busy. FBLA Future Business Leaders of America began the year with an officer convention in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 18, 1984. The members of the club entered a truck in the homecoming parade and went together with VICA to make a fair booth for the Iackson County Fair and won third place. They sold Christmas ornaments for their fund raiser this year which was a success. For their Christmas project, they placed a large Christmas stock- ing in the Annex and in the High School and collected toys for needy families. They also had a Christmas party to recognize the sellers of their fund raiser and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. For National FBLA Week, they did something different day for the business teachers: 1. signs of appreciation 2. apples on their desks 3. cookies in their boxes 4. corsages for them for business appreciation + Valentine's Day. They also visited Delinquent Shelters during Christmas and the Nursing Home during Thanksgiving. FCA The Fellowship of Christian Athletes provides opportunities for ser- vices, leadership, and involvement in the local church. It also pro- vides opportunities for members to attend State Conventions in the spring and National Conferences in the summer. The meetings are twice monthly for students to share their commitment to Jesus Christ through the common bond of sports. This year they visited the local nursing homes, bringing cards, fruit baskets, and companionship to the elderly. ANGELA PETERSON Angela was certainly one of the most versatile people. at PHSJ Not only was she outstanding academically but also on the basketball court. KELLY MCLAUGHLIN During her three years at PHS, Kelly has received many honors. She has held the state record for the two mile run and received numerous awards in track. Not only is she an outstanding athlete but also an outstan- ding student. She graduated at the head of her class and has received many academic awards. She was also ac- tive in many clubs and held offices in the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and Spanish Club. Kelly plans on atten- ding Ole Miss where she hopes to maj or in accounting and Spanish. 169 170 GINA HOLLAND Gina's greatest achievements were in the field of jour- nalism during her high school years. Her junior year she was the assistant editor of the Panther Pen, and editor her senior year. She is the recipient of several jour- nalistic scholarships and was listed in the Who's Who Among American High School Students. She plans on attending Mississippi State University. JULIE HOWELL Iulie was active in many areas of student life at PHS. Julie held numerous offices in many of the clubs at Pascagoula High School. She was a three year member - of band and of student council. She also served as senior class treasurer. Iulie plans to attend Delta State Univer- sity and major in elementary education. DWIGHT PATTERSON Dwight was a very distinguished student at PHS. He was a National Merit Finalist and was the recipient of many academic scholarships. He attended both Boys' State and Governors, School. He was a member of numerous clubs and held offices in the chess club and beta club. He plans to attend Mississippi State Universi- ty and major in electrical engineering. ROMANNIE MARSALIS Romannie has been an excellent leader through his years at PHS. He was class President both his junior and senior years. He was selected into ths Who Among American High School Students. However, Romannie was most oustanding on the football field. He received many awards for his talents, including a scholarship. to Tennessee State University. 171 MICHELE PEREZ Michele has devoted much of her time and hard work to her fellow Classmates. She was a three year member of key club and of student council, where she served as both vice-president and President. She was choosen to be a Girls State delegate and was also ohoosen most beautiful runner-up. She was also the recipient of the Class of 1979 leadershiptrophy. Michele plans to attend University of Southern Mississippi and major in elementary education. D PENNY WISE Penny has been quite an outstanding student during her stay at PHS. She was chodsen Miss PHS, most likely to succeed, and having the most school spirit. She was a three year member of student council, NHS, and key club. She also served as head cheerleader her senior year. Matt has been recognized as being the friendliest boy at PHS. He has also received Citizenship awards every year since ninth grade.
