Mr. Johnsonts contribu- tions to PHS and the school community include the establish- ment of the school yearbook, THE .PANTHER, a student handbook, the broadening of the high school curriculum to include sixteen new courses tfor 197m, serving as president of the state principalts association, and creating group portraits of graduating senior Classes. The Panther team marked up the only score on a fourth and goal play after a 50 yard drive. Higdon carried it in for the six points. PHS Stops MCGill 10-0 The Panthers made a bril- liant comeback after a weeks idleness to overthrow the previously unbeaten McGill Yellow Jackets, IO-O. In a driving Goula attack, Siedell carried for the first score; Gil- bert made the conversion mid- way through the third quarter, Lippe recovered a yellow jacket fumble 0n the McGill 15, setting up Gilbert for a 25 yard field goal which com- pleted the Panther scoring. PHS McGill PHS Tops Laurel The mighty Panthers proved their strength by defeating the Laurel Tornadoes 21 to 13. Senior QB Jimmy Haygood com- pleted 10 passes for 149 yards in his first complete role as signal caller, and made several key stops on defense. Laurel scored after two plays in the second quarter, mak- ing the score 6-0, and one minute later the Panthers scored with Earl Gilbert making the PAT. Tiger Defense Stops Pas Pascagoula fell to a tough Hattiesburg defense which allowed them only a total 0167 yards. The Pantherk only scoring drive was called back due to a clipping penalty. Pascagoula again was plagued by fumbles, losing two out of four. Standouts for Pascagoula included ttThunder Thornton, Doug Davis, Wayne Graham, Steve Lippe, and Donnie Pollard.
